So many games do such a poor job justifying their cost or the time investment, putting ad breaks in will further devalue them.
I dont play free mobile games because of the ads, so if something like Rocket League got ad breaks, I'd stop playing it too.
Microsoft has filed a patent for ads that could interrupt games after boss fights, cutscenes, quests and multiplayer rounds
Players would receive credits granting temporary game access, while watching an ad would award another credit to let them resume
Many people think that the words “Artificial Intelligence” are inaccurate, and very ineloquent, relative to AI, or Artificial Intelligence. A far more elegant and accurate description of this new phenomena would be Superior Intelligence (SI) or, Extreme Intelligence (EI) or, Supreme Intelligence (SI). This is a Poll, and I would appreciate everybody voting! Which is the best name for this ever growing “Revolution?” President DONALD J. TRUMP
What you will find instead are a bunch of people telling me that there are a thousand reasons that AI can't solve entitlement fraud but suddenly lose all that skepticism when you start talking about how the magical AI god is going to wipe out the entire world
Here is a list of things I think AI should be able to solve before it's dangerous enough to kill everyone:
1) all forms of entitlement fraud - this should be easily fixable by tracking payments and cash flows. Find where money goes in but no services are rendered. Child's play for an all-knowing AI.
2) elderly scam farms - fixed with telephony tracking, payment tracking, find the scammers, empty their bank accounts, sabotage their remote access strategies
3) narcotics trafficking - more money flow, disrupt crypto conduits, track chemicals being used for narcotic synthesis, disrupt those avenues of commerce
Compared to "the extinction of all humanity", these are very simple problems to tackle. These problems are a thousand times simpler than killing every person in the world
If you don't believe that AI can fix these narrowly banded issues, if you're immediately looking for reasons that I'm stupid an naive for thinking AI can solve these problems in the next 2 years, you have no business believing that AI can destroy all humans by the end of the decade.
@Sargon_of_Akkad@sleepy_devo It's half true. It's more accurate to say that oldschool Japanese gamedevs wanted to make a Western fantasy game, but then they mixed various aspects of ancient Eurocentric paganism with Christianity because they didn't actually give a f--- beyond the Western aesthetic.
We all know what’s coming on September 10. It’s going to be the most insufferable day of the entire year on the internet.
And with that in mind, here’s some pictures of Portland I recently took. Arm yourself with these, anon, for the Kirk memes that happen to cross your timeline.
Modern Conservatives will utter these corny talking points and pretend like it’s a refutation of the broader point that Postliberals are making, as if the Founding Fathers would have EVER agreed with the 20th century Progressive worldview that Conservatives seek to conserve today.
Let me tell you what the Founding Fathers actually believed, using their own words.
“Men … wholly destitute of Property, are also too little acquainted with public Affairs to form a Right Judgment, and too dependent upon other Men to have a Will of their own. … Very few Men, who have no Property, have any Judgment of their own.” - John Adams
“The people he said, immediately should have as little to do as may be about the Government. They want information and are constantly liable to be misled.” - James Madison recording Roger Sherman’s thoughts at the Constitutional Convention
“The evils we experience flow from the excess of democracy. The people do not want virtue; but are the dupes of pretended patriots. … He had been too republican heretofore: He was still however republican, but had been taught by experience the danger of the levelling spirit.” - James Madison recording Elbridge Gerry’s thoughts at the Constitutional Convention
“Hence it is that such democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention; have ever been found incompatible with personal security or the rights of property; and have in general been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their deaths.” - James Madison
“Is not, Representation, an essential, a fundamental departure from Democracy? Is not every Representative Government, in the Universe, an Aristocracy? … Representation and Democracy, are contradictions in terms.” - John Adams
“If all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, Religion and morality are indispensable supports. … And let us with caution indulge the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion. Whatever may be conceded to the influence of refined education on minds of peculiar structure, reason and experience both forbid us to expect that National morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle.” - George Washington
“The general diffusion of Christian knowledge hath a natural tendency to correct the morals of men, restrain their vices, and preserve the peace of society; which cannot be effected without a competent provision for learned teachers.” - Patrick Henry
“Providence has been pleased to give this one connected country to one united people—a people descended from the same ancestors, speaking the same language, professing the same religion, attached to the same principles of government, very similar in their manners and customs.” - John Jay
“The tender breasts of ladies were not formed for political convulsion; and the French ladies miscalculate much their own happiness, when they wander from the true field of their influence, into that of politics.” - Thomas Jefferson
“But why exclude Women? … because their Delicacy renders them unfit for Practice and Experience, in the great Business of Life, and the hardy Enterprizes of War, as well as the arduous Cares of State.” - John Adams
“To admit foreigners indiscriminately to the rights of citizens, the moment they put foot in our country, as recommended in the Message, would be nothing less, than to admit the Grecian Horse into the Citadel of our Liberty and Sovereignty.” - Alexander Hamilton
“Nothing is more certainly written in the book of fate than that these people are to be free. Nor is it less certain that the two races, equally free, cannot live in the same government. Nature, habit, opinion have drawn indelible lines of distinction between them.” - Thomas Jefferson
If the Founders were here today, you would call them Woke Right reactionary racist misogynists whose anti-American views are a danger to the future direction of the Right.
"...improves everyone's lives, frees up our time, and makes us all happier!"
Techbros overpromising again. None of those things are guaranteed. Most especially not the last.
AI tech isnt the magic box that ushers in Utopia.
The Basic Income/AI Dividend movement is literally the most rational response to the anti-datacenter movement. We should welcome being fired from our jobs if there's guarantees the profits from the new AI economy will give a Basic Income that genuinely improves everyone's lives, frees up our time, and makes us all happier!
This is a good piece. We have had at least a decade or two of the tech industry often overpromising, lying, or burdening everyone else with unforeseen consequences. Some are once again promising a Utopia, and they act like no one should be wary of that.
Way too many tech people see themselves and the builders, the saviors, the good people who are changing the world. They (or 'we' because I'm a part of this group) act offended that they can't just immediately get whatever they want wherever they want it

It is simplistic fantasy. Its pro-AI but not pro-human.
"We'll take away your sense of purpose, but dont worry, there will be numbers in your digital wallet to buy all the generic shit AI will create for you to use to fill your time."
This post struck a nerve and got a lot of negative feedback. A lot of replies called this fantasy or communism, so let me walk through it. I call it the AI Self-Scaling Safety Net.
Dario Amodei CEO of Anthropic has proposed a 3% tax on AI revenue. Every dollar that businesses pay to use AI gets skimmed on the way in and routed to displaced workers.
Communism? A revenue tax is less radical than the payroll tax that funds social security. The companies stay private. Markets set prices. Investors keep their equity. This is capitalism with a safety net for those displaced by AI.
AI can only replace millions of workers if businesses are spending billions to use it. Displacement and revenue are chained together. The fund grows as fast as the unemployment rate increases. That's the self-scaling part.
This fund will pay for the bridge: wage insurance, income support, retraining. The bridge gets us through the brutal period, when AI is good enough to take your job but not good enough to provide for everyone.
Abundance comes later with falling prices. When robots produce most goods, costs collapse towards materials and electricity. Prices falling that hard would normally wreck an economy, so the government will have to issue money just to stave off extreme deflation. Those dollars would go to the people in the form of Universal High Income.
