My position on argumentation is often sourced from a phrase I read in a Japanese book:
'Always remember that to argue, and win, is to break down the reality of the person you are arguing against. It is painful to lose your reality, so be kind even if you are right.'
Gratitude is a strange magic if you follow it all the way down. i started one evening counting what i owed and could not stop the counting, the bread, the teeth to chew it, the some farmer's lumbago in some wet field, of the unremembered woman who boiled water for wounds in a plague century so that someone could survive to breed my grandfather's grandfather. every squalid bloody accident of history lining up like servants to hand me this morning, and by the end of it i was grinning alone in my kitchen like a village idiot
The modern man wants to predict everything, calculate, control, and he fails to realize that his attempt at control is what provokes more disease, war. every time he reaches for the tree of knowledge on his own, he is reaching for death. and the only way to engage the other side is through faith, some blind foolish faith that trusts that everything will happen as it should. this drives the modern cynical man insane. it makes him feel stupid and weak, and so he avoids it at all times, preferring his models. but he knows somewhere in his bones that they are all just so many sandcastles
Breaking promises to yourself is the most insidious form of self-mutilation in existence. you just wake up with swollen joints or your skin starts rejecting sunlight or your hair comes out in clumps in the shower and some dumb doctor tells you its genetics or its stress. but honestly, its the accumulated rot of a thousand broken oaths fermenting inside your gut lining
Diaspora Islam is survival Islam. It asks: "How do I stay Muslim in a non-Muslim land?" It does not ask: "How do I build a civilization?" It cannot. The conditions prevent it. So the diaspora Muslim bcomes an expert in identity maintenance, halal food,Islamic schools, anti-racism
sometimes when the need for change is so urgent, people become completely paralyzed bc they lack the courage/capacity for revolutionary action & don't believe small contributions toward justice are enough ... do the small things anyway
Bir genç, bir medrese hocasına:
"Batılılar çalıştı, Ay'a çıktı; siz ise hâlâ Buhârî okuyorsunuz." der.
Hoca da şu cevabı verir:
"Mahlûk mahlûka ulaşmış, biz Hâlık'a ulaşmak istiyoruz. Lâkin aramızda müflis olan sadece sensin. Ne onlarla Ay'a ulaştın ne de bizimle Buhârî okudun."
Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله mentioned,
“Patiently warding off one's temptations is easier than bearing with the consequences of those desires, for those consequences will be either:
-pain and punishment, or
-being deprived of a greater enjoyment than the one you had, or

"Misafirine ne ikram edeceğini soran onu ağırlayamaz; düşmanına saldıracağını söyleyen de onu vuramaz."
(Misafire ikram edilir, düşmana karşı da harekete geçilir; bunlar uzun uzun konuşulacak işler değildir.)
Every man that tries to figure out the world entirely on his own ends up building a small, stupid god to replace the one he rejected. it never fails. he drops God, picks up science or stoicism or some guy on the internet who read enough books to pass for a prophet, and within six months he's talking about cold showers and circadian rhythms with the same exact tone a priest uses on sunday. the need to worship doesn't go anywhere just because you decided you're too smart for it. it just finds smaller things to attach to, and smaller gods make smaller people. nobody quits God. they trade down.
Fear God for ten years straight, and when they watch you walk through something that should have destroyed you and ask how you're still standing, tell them you sleep early, and watch it eat them alive. because they wanted a secret, and the secret is they have no discipline and no God, and they know it
