A long-duration pursuit by West Sacramento PD/Yolo sheriff assisted by Sac PD's heli is returning back into the greater Sacramento area after venturing as far out as Woodland.
Christmas afternoon in the Sacramento valley could be rather interesting thunderstorm wise, with nearly every convective allowing model suggesting some clearing behind what will likely be a potent morning convective band.
Behind the morning convective line, the environment will quickly destabilize amidst a -24c degree cold pool at 500mb and dew points in the low-50s, should said clearing occur.|
There will be a window of up to a few hours before lift and forcing inevitably force another line through the area in the evening, but should any storms develop ahead of the line and remain discrete, shear will be more than supportive for low-topped supercells.
Even if discrete storms fail to materialize, the bands of forced convection will be operating in an environment with a 60+ knot low-level jet that could be realized down to the surface in any strong or bowing segments.
