FOODPANDA RIDER LISTED AS CONSIGNEE IN MULTI-MILLION SMUGGLING CASE

Sen. Kiko Pangilinan on Monday questioned how a foodpanda rider ended up being named as an importer in shipments of carrots, onions, and frozen fish flagged in the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Food and Agrarian Reform's inquiry into agricultural smuggling.

During the hearing, EPCB Consumer Goods Trading owner Dexter Juala admitted he was the registered importer but denied knowledge of the operations. Pressed by Pangilinan, Juala said it was his uncle, identified as Erwin Pascual, who used his ID and registered the company under his name at the pier.

Pangilinan raised alarm that a delivery rider from Bulacan could be fronting for smuggling syndicates. He noted that Juala's name appeared in documents linked to the entry of 14 containers of contraband goods.
