I’ve hardly used twitter in the last year, and I’ve been thinking I should delete my account. I just popped in today to vote for Musk to step down, but I am too late. Mastodon does seem like a nicer platform. Maybe I’ll see y all here again, if Elon leaves.
To all the main parties.
I genuinely don’t mind paying a bit more in #tax, if it goes toward making our public services working and helps to look after those most in need.
Anyone else or is this just me?
“We’ve put 20,000 more police officers on the street” @RishiSunak is boasting today
Imagine his shock when someone reminds him his party has
• Cut 21,000 police officers
•Cut 23000 police support staff
• Closed 600 police stations
& he will fall off his chair when he finds out that per capita - with an increasing population - we shall actually have fewer police on our streets then we did a decade ago NOT MORE!
Nigel Farage recently lied about Muslims on national TV, saying almost half of them support terrorism.
THAT'S IMPLIED INCITEMENT as he's calling them a violent threat.
And now he's complaining about violence in politics?
These people poison our politics, then play victim.🙄
Today @ITV screened the first episode of BREATHTAKING to a cinema full of press. Nerve-wracking, nail-biting, exciting. How I hope we’ve done justice to the experiences of NHS staff 💙

Also University staff have also almost universally lost staff rooms and refectories, so there is really nowhere left that academic staff can meet out of earshot of students, over a self made (free!) cup of coffee, to discuss sensitive issues and support and mentor each other.
I was put in a shared office of four when I started as a lecturer. In my first week I had to discuss a termination with a student in the corridor. Communal workspaces for teaching staff are incompatible with student confidentiality and dignity.
Managements up and down the country are trying to make @ucu members feel verrrrrrry isolated through disproportionate deductions.
So we're teaming up. The financial intimidation isn't normal, and we all know it. Join us on Wednesday at 2pm? https://t.co/soevImyaXP

@Vicky_Canning I resigned from a Senior Lectureship at Bangor University in November. I was burnt out and there was no way to have any meaningful dialogue to address the causes of it. I am enjoying my career change. Pay is as good, hours are better, better “work-life balance”. Good luck.
Here is the video of UoE attempting to drown out student protest with...organ music....
truly they must be running out of ideas, which is interesting considering they havent yet tried just paying their workers fairly??
this is me at my graduation today. I am holding the tube where my degree should be but there is nothing inside it. what was I given? an apology letter. where is it now? crumpled up in the bin. @EdinburghUni, pay your staff and end the dispute now! #markingboycott#ucurising@ucu
@ThePalpitations@EmmaSzewczak My kids thought "Amen" was "Almonds" for years. I did not correct them. They really liked actual Almonds back then. They now have very well formed opinions about prayers. Lets just say they still prefer Almonds. And yes, let them eat bugs :-)
Many people feel overwhelmed by the climate crisis, and don't realise how much leverage they have to press for positive action from big business through their pension schemes. This👇is a very well thought out action - which needs your help.
Welcome new followers! We are suing USS, the UK’s largest pension fund, to protect our pensions and our planet. What we seek to achieve is simple: a 🧵 #USSmess https://t.co/3Q0jBG7T9C 1/8
I still cant understand why @UCU are not funding this legal challenge. Please donate to this crowd funder if you are a UK academic, and you'd like to challenge the shenanigans surrounding the @USS pension scheme.

Very glad to see that @CardiffUCU have a plan to escalate locally if your pay is withheld for the marking bouycott. I have been wondering what branches will do in this situation.
I’ll be voting for my local branch @CardiffUCU to go give @cardiffuni 14 days notice of strike action against this punitive, goodwill-killing behaviour.
This, along with student suffering, cld be avoided if our employers gave us a fair offer on pay & conditions.
