If the woman in question were an Igbo woman, this space wouldn’t contain us. They would drag her, then drag Igbo women as a whole, calling us all sorts of names and using her actions to paint us as the worst women on earth. And more often than not, the loudest voices would be Igbo men.

When women from other tribes get themselves into some sort of mess, their men seem perfectly capable of separating the individual from the entire tribe. But let it be an Igbo woman, and suddenly some Igbo men make it their personal mission to shame her and use her as evidence against every Igbo woman.

I’m yet to see Yoruba people dragging the woman in this particular situation. Everyone is focused on the man, as they rightly should be.

If she were Igbo, though? They would crucify her, generalize her behaviour to millions of Igbo women, and somehow find a way to make excuses for the man.
