@AgrawalNina@nytimes Good afternoon, Nina. I just sent you an email about a story you may find interesting. Tried to DM, but I am not verified. What the best way to contact you? Would love to chat if you’re interested.
One of the themes in the book is how addiction affects an entire family.
@HunterBiden, your willingness to speak openly about recovery helped put a human face on that struggle. If this thread reaches you, I’d be honored to send you a signed copy.
Ten years ago, I was diagnosed with cancer.
Since then, my family has navigated cancer, disability, addiction, estrangement, fear, hope, and everything in between.
Somehow, we’re still standing.
I wrote a memoir called Normal: A Lifetime of Disabilities, Addictions and Diagnoses because I wanted people facing difficult circumstances to feel less alone.
Not because I had all the answers.
Because I didn’t.
A friend hand-delivered my book Normal to Arthur Brooks, and he responded with this incredibly thoughtful message.
His words about “dedicating the hard things to serving others” really stayed with me.
Grateful beyond words. ❤️

A final piece of advice from Holly Butcher - written the day before she passed away from cancer at just 27:
“It’s a strange thing knowing you’re going to die young.
At 26, I thought I had time…
To fall in love.
Start a family.
Grow old.
But cancer doesn’t care about plans.
Now, I understand how fragile life really is. Every single day is a gift, not a guarantee.
I’m not writing this to scare you. I’m writing to remind you: really live.
Stop stressing over little things. Be kind to your body- move it, nourish it, stop criticizing it. One day you’ll wish you had appreciated it.
Go outside.
Look at the sky.
Feel the sun.
Just be.
Spend less time chasing “stuff” - more time making memories. Don’t skip moments with people you love.
Laugh more.
Write a note.
Tell someone you love them.
Complain less.
Give more.
Helping others brings more joy than anything you can buy.
Be present.
Put your phone down.
Show up - really show up.
You don’t need to have it all figured out. You don’t need a perfect body, or a perfect life.
Just follow what makes your heart light up. Say no to what drains you. Make changes when you need to.
And please - donate blood. I wouldn’t have had that extra year without it. And that year gave me memories I’ll hold close… forever.
Thank you for reading this.
Live your life well.
And maybe… we’ll meet again someday.”

Back home.
The early support for Normal has been incredible — thank you.
But this is bigger than a book.
“Wear the Message” as an identity.
For anyone who’s taken a hit and kept going.
The gear is live.
Not merch. A statement. Support for the mission.

@goodreads Shamelessly, my new memoir. Written to try to help others going through some of the same pain I’ve battled for decades.
Check out NORMAL if you have or are navigating through cancer, addiction or disabilities.

Treatment day today, Jake surprised me by being there with me.
It felt like the right backdrop to say thank you to everyone who’s supported NORMAL since its release. The messages, shares, and encouragement have meant more than I can say.
Grateful for all of it. 🤍🎗️

Quick break from Brewers content for something personal.
I’ve watched my dad battle for the past 10 years — through cancer, setbacks, uncertainty, and a lot of moments most people never see. Somewhere in the middle of all that, he wrote a book.
Today, his memoir NORMAL is officially out. It’s an honest look at a life shaped by some really hard things, and the resilience it takes to keep going anyway. I’ve seen firsthand how much work, reflection, and heart went into this, and I couldn’t be more proud of him.
If you’re into real stories about perseverance and showing up, it’s worth checking out.
Available now on Amazon. 🎗️

10 years ago today, I was diagnosed w/ cancer for the 1st time. Since then: a 2nd diagnosis, a move 2 FL, & more strength than I knew I had. Grateful beyond words 4 the support of family, friends & the incredible teams at @Froedtert & @MoffittNews . Still here.

My son & his wife gave us the BEST Christmas gift this holiday season. When my cancer journey began in 2016, I truly didn’t know if I’d ever get a chance to hold a grandchild, but that dream is coming true. I can’t wait to meet Baby Saunders in July! My heart is full! #Familylove
Sometimes you find hope where u least expect 2. Went to the new @moffittcancercenter facility 4 another scan this week and saw this inspiration. This is exactly what NORMAL is intended 2 do. If I can inspire, encourage, or help in some way, the book will be completely worth it.
