1/3 A year ago, we went back to Alaska to finish our trip. We finally started blogging about it, and already published two posts! We plan to publish a post a week, until we make it to the Arctic Ocean (we did!).
Why did we go back?

2/3 And here we started biking north from Healy, where we were in 2021, trying out our bikepacking gear and fighting the first mosquitoes of the trip.

Tonight at 7pm PST, Salomé and I will be giving an online talk at the Mountaineers Walking the Wild series about our trip crossing Iceland on foot in 2016!
If you are avaible, consider joining the zoom call! If you miss it, happy to share slides!

We will have almost no cell phone connection throughout this trip, so we won’t do regular blog updates and instead we’ll retrace our trip in daily updates when we get back home.
Wish us luck! 🍀
Two years ago we tried to cross Alaska from Ketchikan to Kotzebue, but only managed to do two thirds of it.
This summer we are going to try to finish the trip, from Healy all the way to the Arctic to Kotzebue biking, hiking and paddling 🚵♀️🥾🚣♀️
At the headwaters, we will have our boats flown in and will paddle the whole length (425 miles) of the Noatak River, virtually unaffected from civilization.
All of that should take us about 6 weeks!
... there is an in-person viewing of the talk at the Mountaineers Program Center hosted by the Packrafting Committee. Unfortunately Salomé will be giving the talk remotely from Zurich, but Ricardo will attend with some of the trip's gear.

Neural RGB-D Surface Reconstruction - Produces mesh reconstructions of a scene using images, depth-maps, and initial camera poses as input. I really like the use of signed distance fields to help generate the very clean results. #CVPR2022
At the end of our trip in Alaska, our friend Arthur picked us up in his bushplane and hosted us for 2 weeks in beautiful gold rush "town" of Chisana. We had a blast there, only topped by the spectacular flights over the Wrangells.

Thanks everyone who helped us along the way, including our ground team back in Seattle, and all folks in Alaska that were extremely hospitable 🙏🙏

We finished our trip! A few days ago we made it Icy Bay Lodge, where we stopped in the spring, connecting the dots between Ketchikan, Alaska’s southernmost city, and Healy, that’s just north of Denali National Park.
What a trip!! We enjoyed so much Alaska’s wilderness!

We are so grateful that we could finish the trip, especially after how hard it was in the spring! We met so many incredible people & had unforgettable experiences in the wild. We wrote parting thoughts in the blog post above.
