Behind the post-and-rope the dunes are doing important work! 🌱
Your choice to stay on marked paths gives pioneer plants a chance to take root. These early species pave the way for stronger vegetation, healthier dunes, and a shoreline that can stand up to wind, waves, and time.
Wormwood doesn’t draw much attention, but its role is huge at North Beach! 🌿
It shelters insects, provides food to wildlife, and stabilizes loose sand, creating the foundation the dunes need to withstand wind and waves. Even the smallest plants can help shape a landscape.

A little space goes a long way with our wildlife!🌿
Killdeer are ground‑nesting birds, meaning their eggs blend in perfectly with stones and driftwood. Giving them distance helps reduce stress and keeps them from performing their “broken‑wing” distraction display.

🍂 As the season changes, North Beach transforms into a quiet haven filled with colour and wildlife.
This Ruffed grouse is right at home among the autumn leaves. Ruffed grouse stay year-round and blend perfectly into the autumn forest floor.

🦋 Monarchs aren’t the only ones migrating through North Beach this time of year!
🍂 Red-eyed vireos are quietly passing through as they head south. Their summer songs have faded, and with plumage blending into the canopy, they’re easy to miss!

🛟Bringing floaties to the beach may seem like a good idea, but wind, currents, and deep water can make using a floatie on a lake dangerous. ☀️
Let’s keep water play safe and joyful for everyone. Visit the Ontario Parks Blog to find out more https://t.co/7l4jgGwVqz
At first glance, you might mistake this butterfly for a Monarch, but look closer! 🔍 🦋
The Viceroy doesn’t just look similar, it mimics its warning colors to avoid predators. They thrive near wetlands and meadows, especially where willows and poplars grow!

🌿 Our beaches are important habitat. 🌿
Never damage plants when you walk to the beach or find a place to sit, and leave driftwood where it lies. To find out how to keep North Beach clean and beautiful for years to come, please visit https://t.co/E0mglAuxzG
Garter snakes and other animals are often seen crossing warm roads in early fall in search of food, water, and hibernation areas.
While at North Beach, please watch for wildlife and give them time to cross safely.
