In the U.S. you can get a felony and 6 years in prison for sleeping in your car. For domestic assault, you only get a misdemeanor a maximum of 11 months in prison.
For many Americans, a vehicle is the last line of defense against sleeping on the streets. Yet, across the United States, local governments are rapidly enacting ordinances that outlaw vehicle residency and overnight parking.
From major hubs like San Francisco and Los Angeles to smaller municipalities like Colorado Springs, local authorities are expanding "camping bans" to target those sleeping in cars and even RVs.
These laws carry severe penalties, including steep fines, misdemeanor charges, immediate vehicle impoundment, and sometimes even a felony. For individuals turning to their cars as a temporary safety net, a single citation can trigger a cycle of debt and legal trouble that makes escaping homelessness nearly impossible.
The nationwide wave of criminalization has intensified following the landmark 2024 Supreme Court decision in City of Grants Pass v. Johnson, which ruled that penalizing people for sleeping in public does not violate the Eighth Amendment.
This ruling gave cities broad authority to enforce camping bans, even in areas with severe shelter shortages.
In Tennessee, you can get a Class E felony for sleeping in your car — and up to 6 years in prison. Domestic assault is just a Class A misdemeanor, punishable by up to 11 months in prison. In fact, you can’t be charged with a felony for domestic assault until your THIRD TIME.
While municipal leaders argue these measures keep public spaces clean and safe, civil rights advocates warn they criminalize survival. Instead of addressing the systemic shortage of affordable housing, these ordinances penalize working-class Americans who are simply priced out of the rental market.

If you know anyone who doesn’t realize what is happening in this country, please show them this video. Please tell them that this is not about arresting violent criminals. This is about a quota that Stephen Miller wants arrested every day. This is about police state activity that should not be happening in the United States of America.
Love how he assumes the person who wants to hold his criminal ass accountable for being a pedophile is a communist
These people know who has the ideology that truly threaten their criminal behavior
I appreciate that it’s a guy that looks like him saying this lol he really is the successor to Arnold. We need more movies where a regular family man who gets pulled into a situation happens to be the biggest person you’ve ever seen
The U.S. has been significantly weakened by the war with Iran.
This administration depleted our missile defenses, drained our oil reserves, sacrificed our men & women, inflated the price of consumer goods, increased our debt, and neglected our domestic needs…
all for Israel.
⚠️ Imagine if EVERYONE talked to police this way!
This motherfucker is a legend and should never have to pay for another beer in his life. Watch till end. 🍻
DC Comics announces 'BATMAN: SHADOW OF THE BAT', a new comic series from 'ABSOLUTE MARTIAN MANHUNTER' creative team Deniz Camp and Javier Rodríguez.
The series will introduce new characters, including villains, to Gotham City.
This wouldn’t have anything to do with the fact that Trump is an investor in Axon, and that the company is linked to an Israeli police tech firm founded by Jeffrey Epstein and former Israel PM Ehud Barak, with BlackRock as its largest shareholder now…
Would it?! 🤨
Mayor Mamdani, you have a duty...
Genocidaire Benjamin Netanyahu will visit NYC for the UN General Assembly in September. You condemned Netanyahu's genocide of Palestinians & reiterated the ICC's calls to arrest & try him. Your administration said that NYC doesn't have legal authority to enforce the ICC warrant.
@NYCMayor does have legal authority to take concrete steps to stop the violent expansion of the zionist colonial project by halting the sale of #StolenPalestinianLand in NYC, which violate NYC Real Property Law, NYC Human Rights Law, & NYC Real Estate License Law.
We call on the Mamdani administration to act on our demands:
1) Advance meaningful calls to @NewYorkStateAG to investigate & stop illegal Palestinian land sales.
2) Remove the property tax exempt status of religious institutions & schools hosting these illegal, discriminatory events.
3) Fire @NYPDPC Tisch & disband the Strategic Response Group to curb NYPD's discriminatory, violent targeting of people of conscience who protest the sale of stolen Palestinian land in our neighborhoods.
@ZohranMamdani take a stand, stop the sale of stolen Palestinian land.
Defying Washington's mandate; refusing to bow down before it or acknowledging its power as all-supreme; refusing to allow yourself to be ravaged by its parasitic rulers— that is what they mean when they accuse you of revolting against western civilization. That is Cuba's sin.
Not having independent legal authority to execute an arrest never stopped the NYPD before, and won’t stop them in the future, suddenly they respect the law when it comes to Netanyahu? lol ok
