It would be one thing if Los Angeles were scrapping for a playoff spot with young, up and coming talent.

It's quite a different thing to be scrapping for a playoff spot when your:

Goaltender is turning 36.

Your supposed top defenseman is 36.

A top two centerman is 38 and retiring.

Two critical pieces to a rebuild - fifth overall pick Alex Turcotte and second overall pick Quinton Byfield just aren't good enough.

And the only silver lining amongst the darkness - Brandt Clarke - still doesn't seem to be fully trusted by the coaching staff.

It's a real shame what Luc Robitaille and his cast of cronies have done to the Los Angeles Kings.

Since the New Year the Kings have scored 14 goals in the 156:16 minutes Brandt Clarke has been on the ice for. They've scored 7 goals in the 337:17 he hasn't been on the ice for.

I'm going to suggest something crazy here but maybe he should be playing more than 19:32 per game
