I understand why people, particularly on the left, reflexively cringe at the sight of any positive or even neutrally respectful reading of the American Revolution (the cult of the founding fathers is toxic and annoying and the belief by Americans that their revolution was sensible while all others were ludicrous is dead wrong), but you can’t square that with a dialectical reading of history. Professional history has progressed since the boomers were in high school. The new historiography is rich, multifaceted, and unsparing in its criticism of how minorities were treated. Think beyond contrarianism
