It would take far more than a month to honor the contributions of queer and transgender New Yorkers.
From the Cercle Hermaphroditos in 1895, the first trans advocacy group in the United States, to the drag balls of the Harlem Renaissance, to the Stonewall uprising, to the Lesbian Herstory Archives, to ACT UP!, founded in 1987 as queer people fought for their lives while the Reagan administration looked away, New York City's history has long been shaped by queer and trans New Yorkers.
To all our queer and trans neighbors: you deserve a City where you can afford to live safely, openly, and joyfully.
Happy Pride, New York City.
Actual conversation I had on the bike trial today:
Person: “Why does your vest that say ‘Deaf Cyclist’?”
Me: “To alert other riders that I cannot hear or react to them unless I can see them.”
Person: “But you’re not deaf. You’re talking to me right now!”
It’s baffling to me that people can’t let go of Harry Potter when Daniel Radcliffe was able to separate himself from it the second J.K Rowling started to be a cunt like i feel if Harry Potter himself understands basic human decency is more important it shouldn’t be hard for you
@wolfeupdates i had followed a bit of this run through audios etc but it definitely didn’t compare to seeing this cast live! a favorite moment is hearing the company all together and how their voices blended, particularly in way down hadestown with the call and response with hermes.
