I know it’s become pretty cliche and cringey to talk about at this point but if you’re under like 25 I cannot stress enough how one time Obama wore a tan suit and people spent a week arguing over whether or not it was demeaning to the Oval Office and they were serious about it.
Cynthia Erivo talks to Variety about people joking about her being Ariana Grande’s “bodyguard” after she defended her from a red carpet intruder:
“I think that we haven’t really come to terms with the insidious nature of how we view Black women. And I’m sure people will read this and think, ‘Oh, for goodness’ sake, it’s not about that.’ But it is. Because that’s what was being made fun of. It was my physique; it was my shape; it was the fact that I was bald; it was about what I looked like. And because of that, there was this assumption that I was bigger than my co-star and so I had to be controlling or protecting, and that was my role. I would hazard a guess that it would not have been the same had it been the other way around.”
the Reimer case quite literally validates the identity of trans folks in that forcing a gender identity onto someone who does not align with said gender identity has detrimental effects on mental health but transphobes use this case as a gotcha because they are braindead
Shortly after the election I grieved for and later made peace with the extremely uncomfortable fact that most of us are going to die significantly earlier than we would like, and the cause may very well trace a direct line to the actions of this administration.
If monarch butterflies when extinct there would be a major collapse in insect biodiversity resulting in multiple ecosystems being disrupted which affects ALL species, including humans. Monarch butterflies are pollinators and help supply environments with clean air and maintain healthy habitats. They are an important part of our food ecosystem.
Not to mention they are also very culturally significant to Mexico and represent the souls of departed loved ones during the Day of the Dead festival. Their migration starts the holiday when they return to Día de Muertos. They are environmentally and culturally extremely significant for North America.
With the wave of data centers being built that are going to destroy so much nature and cause so much pollution, I couldn’t think of a better time to protect these species.
Apart from the obvious commentary here, we also need to stop using "middle-aged" as an insult. In a culture obsessed with youth, aged-based physical criticism only compounds the problem. You will be middle-aged one day, and you'd appreciate not being spoken about like you're disgusting. It's childish, and it erodes our culture.
