David Lynch - A huge and sad loss. A remarkably unique and very talented filmmaker. It was such a truly great pleasure to work with him. If his name was in the credits, you knew the film was really worth seeing. I will miss him.
David Lynch gave us the language we needed to better articulate the indescribable strangeness of our shared reality. โLynchianโ is so overused because itโs a viscerally understandable word without any known synonyms. I canโt imagine a more beautiful artistic legacy than that.
The midnight that the first four episodes of Twin Peaks The Return dropped is one of my favourite TV memories. The type of thing that challenges you to be a better audience member. The summer the whole season aired was like magic to me.
I had this insane setup where I knew Lynch sound design needed to be preserved as much as possible so I plugged my headphones into my TV (which I didn't know I could do before that) but the cable was only so long so I had to push the couch right up to the TV and watch like ๐๐
Impossible to find the words. David Lynch was a fundamental force of the universe, a towering iconoclast who bent the entire artform purely with the power of his subconscious. I canโt even process reality without him. Without Lynch thereโs no Twin Peaks, no X-files, obviously no Gravity Falls. (My Bill Cipher voice was just a crummy Lynch impression.) But heโs so much more than that. He wrote little books about Buddhism and did morning weather reports and abducted random abandoned woody woodpecker dolls on the side of the road, calling them his โfriendsโ and then ditching them later because they had โdark energy.โ When asked to explain his art he calmly replied โno.โ Trickster weirdo genius legend. Pour out a mug of black coffee for the king. There will never be another one like him. Miss you already, David
