Just gonna be blunt about QB at Michigan.

Bryce Underwood is at his worst, and well below average, in true drop-backs. He’s sporadic and panics under pressure.

When I hear someone say a QB is at their best on the move, in sprint out, etc, that tells me the guy can’t process or play the position, and that’s what I see from Bryce.

Good thrower, good runner, bad at playing QB. I would put the odds at -700 that he’s not Michigan’s QB next season.

The offensive line wasn’t great and I don’t love play calling, but let’s be real. Bryce Underwood is the biggest problem with this offense.

Michigan has much bigger offensive problems that a QB change coming out of the bye won't fix. The playcalling is trying too hard to be Utah with a team that clearly isn't that. Banged-up OL can't block anyone right now; you're running east-west with north-south guys.

Is a QB change really the answer?

If Tommy Carr can consistently see the field, work through his progressions, and hit the open guy instead of leaving big plays on the table, that would be a step in the right direction. But I still think the bigger issue is that Jason Beck’s scheme doesn’t fit this personnel.

If you’re Kyle Whittingham and Jason Beck, your job get the most out of the group you have right now (not a year from now). Unless Beck is willing to make some fundamental changes and move away from the zone-read/RPO stuff, I just don’t see a QB change having the kind of impact fans are hoping for. It might help in some areas, but I don’t think it solves the bigger problem.

That’s what makes this so difficult. Do you change your scheme five weeks into the season? How much can you realistically change in two weeks? And if you do make those changes, shouldn't Underwood be given the chance to operate within them? I’m not against giving Carr a look, but whoever is taking the snaps still has to run this offense - one that the RBs and o-line are struggling with as well.

When it comes to this offense, it's not just a Bryce Underwood issue. It's an everybody issue. I think that’s the bigger conversation Whittingham and Beck need to be having during the BYE.
