"My Denunciation" is a joke application, but many Russians think it is real.
An IT specialist who left Russia for Europe in the beginning of the war created a parody app for Russians who want to report someone to the authorities. It was used by 5,000 people.
Initially, the purpose of creating the app was a joke, but as soon as the first messages came, Vladimir (the man who created it. Not his real name) realized that denunciations were real.
He notes that the number of real denunciations always increases when an information about an assassination attempt, drone attack or rebellion appears in the media.
“People google where you can complain, see my application by keywords and, without understanding what it is write there,” says Vladimir.
About 20% of the denunciations were written with a detailed description of the misconduct of "violators" and contained personal data.
If they went to the authorities instead of the app criminal cases could’ve been initiated for spreading fakes and discrediting the army.
One woman wanted to send an acquaintance to the front: "Please send Alexei to serve in the SMO. There were two summons letters send to him and he ignored them. I recommend sending him an electronic one through the State Services. This man has combat experience in Chechnya."
A lot of denunciations containing information about those hiding from mobilization. “Vigilant citizens” refer to the social networks of real people, indicate phone numbers and addresses and call for sending them to war.
"Such a young, and already against Putin's policy, calls on all Russians to lay down their arms in Ukraine and go into captivity! How did you miss this? Why do these bastards walk on our land, send them to the SMO! Let them be taught to love the Motherland there," writes an anonymous person.
