Straggling remnants of ex-Hurricane #Lorenzo are still bringing cloud and rain to parts of the UK this morning. Windy but not as bad now for western Ireland this morning. Strong winds for SW England and Wales this afternoon with gusts. More rain at the weekend.
Hurricane #Lorenzo, now ex-hurricane, from space over last 7 days.
NOTE
11s - storm splutters before ramping up to category 5
27s - passes close to Azores, still as a hurricane
30s - gets caught up in jet stream and speeds up, whilst going from hurricane to normal low pressure
Hurricane #Lorenzo has weakened further to category 2, but remains a large hurricane. Hurricane watch issued for the #Azores for likely impacts overnight Tuesday/Wednesday.
NHC "#Lorenzo is now an extremely powerful category 5 hurricane. It is the strongest hurricane on record this far north and east in the Atlantic basin." Being watched by the Azores @ipma_pt and once transitioned, UK and Ireland.
Good morning, Windy with rain and showers across England and Wales moving eastwards, not clearing the SE until evening. Perhaps very windy over parts of south Wales and southern England. Sunny spells and showers for Scotland and Northern Ireland. https://t.co/aM74Sc3TBb ^Barny
Hurricane #Lorenzo is the strongest hurricane on record to exist this far east in the Atlantic (Category 4, 145 mph). Whilst it is set to weaken to some extent before reaching the Azores, hurricane force winds and heavy rain are likely for these mid-Atlantic Portuguese islands
And so the first nonsensical UK winter weather story is doing the rounds in some newspapers.
Consider this... If it’s hard to predict where the remnants of a hurricane will go in a five days, why would anyone know if there’ll be a beast from the east next January?🤔
How can you not love meteorology? Gibraltar’s levanter. Created by easterly winds from the warm sea being forced up by the rock and condensing. Never seen it as well formed as this. ⛰🇬🇮
It's a dry start for most, but not in parts of the southwest. Scattered showers are spreading northwards, with some heavy bursts of #rain in places for the morning commute 🚗💦 #WeatherAware
Are you planning a trip to the coast this #BankHolidayWeekend?

Good afternoon. Spent the morning at Birmingham International Airport with Jerry from @BigJetTVLIVE. Was great to meet some of the members from there and also Kay & Scott who follow us as well. 🙂 Michael. #bigjettv#birminghamairport
Not for the first time this #August, the satellite shows an, ahem, impressive swirl of cloud in the vicinity of the UK... 🤔
The good news is the satellite also reveals plenty of clear sky and #sunshine ☀️ for the time being🤲
Updated @ 17:35 11/08/19.
Good afternoon. We are still seeing lightning being detected under the bands of showers affecting Southern Wales and into parts of England. Lightning detector taken at 17:33. Michael.
