@MeaghenJohnson Well that’s exactly the problem with these breaks if the refs are the ones dictating the resumption of play rather than the broadcaster like other sports. Seems like FIFA is still treating it as a traditional “hydration break” rather than a coordinated TV timeout.
@stingbee30@MikeConti929 Doubt it will be fixed. In NFL or NBA the play resumes once the TV timeout ends, they work with broadcasts. Does not seem the case here. Ref will resume play once he thinks its been 3 mins whether broadcasters are ready or not.
Exorbitant ticket prices for sports are such the norm here that you get celebs and media joking about how expensive it is instead of criticizing it. They’ve made watching live sports exclusively for the rich. And we’re shocked FIFA decided to exploit this for the first time ever?
@AdamCrafton_ Think this falls on the England FA. Multiple stadiums across the east coast have natural grass already installed including this one in Tampa although for some reason they’ve devised to lay down a ‘plug and play’ turf, at discretion of England FA? Could’ve had it at Inter Miami.
@holeymoleynoley@JoeBajelli They really think FIFA is gonna allow grass on cement for the World Cup😂😂 they literally take over control of the stadium a month before and during the tournament to implement and monitor their pitch standards. Where’s the common sense?
@flameosumeet I don’t think they also realize all stadiums have been inspected and/or converted by FIFA to their specific standards. Don’t worry the outrage from these people aren’t very smart people to begin with. Of course FIFA isn’t going to allow just some random plot of sod onto concrete.
@donnovanbennett@FIFAWorldCup FIFA only selected two base camps in Canada for teams selection. Even if the infrastructure was in place anywhere else in Canada it wouldn’t make much sense for most teams. Only 2 other teams have more than 1 game in Canada, New Zealand and Panama.
So it is possible to create a bespoke new kit right before the world cup when a nation unexpectedly qualifies? Guess adidas just cares more than nike #canmnt
@TheChaosWeeber Sport events in America and Canada are for the rich. FIFA playing to the ‘market’ as they say. Cost of the cheapest group stage category in 2022 was capped at $15. Most expensive category was capped at $300. Every previous WC did not use ‘ticketmaster’ style dynamic pricing.
@passport_soccer While that is true, there might be an argument made that the existence of nations league in those windows across all confederations is unnecessary and the int’l windows can be reduced to just be reserved for qualifiers. 1 window in each half of the season could be sufficient.
@parkie1909@JournalistKiril@RobHarris Unless most of the non-directly qualified nations in L1 go to play-offs which is ridiculous in itself but only fair if a L2 nation gets a PO spot IMO. One nation could have to play france and spain in L1 but the other gets san marino and andorra in L2 but can qualify for PO?
@The_Kitsman This is probably the most non-AI looking graphic? We don’t need to blatantly label every single graphic we see as AI. Very disrespectful to the graphic designer or artist.
