@FilliFoxTM As an Indian and an actor, I assure you it is not authentic but it is the โauthenticโ accent that North Americans have accepted as Indian on their screens
@Variety to my ears, Malhotra is carrying forward the faux sing-song inflection that caricatured Indians in the first place. The Opu Trilogy (which inspired the character) is set in Bengal where the accent in English is derived from the inflection of the Bangla language

@Dank_jetha The medical term is hyperpigmentation and Indians have spent decades shredding ourselves of this stigma of fair and even skin tone. Representation like Ravleen is needed to normalize skin beauty standards ๐คฉ๐๐ฅฐ
@NerdeenKiswani wish more folk would understand the implications of the big studio merger but part of me believes art and entertainment surrendered to propaganda decades ago
@ajplus Actors like me know EXACTLY the kind of stories that will be told because weโve had to deal with this narrative for most of our careers. This audition from 2007 was not for a Paramount film but the norm post 9/11.
@OrangeFreddyG After 17 years in the Canadian industry (Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal) I assure you this is normal for Canadian comedy. The rational is Canadians are not racist so they can joke about it. As much Americans idolize Canadians, Iโve never had the same experience on American sets.
@_ZachFoster the question is- despite the land grab and genocide of indigenous people- in a hundred years, will the world regard Israel the same way they do Canada? will future generations be as forgiving of colonization? will they buy the pristine image supported by colonial superpowers?
@LibyaLiberty grew up in Dubai, lived in Minnesota, London, Mississauga, Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal and Mumbai (with nearly every major religion represented on my block)-not religious myself but these 21st century religious phobias need to stop- atp forget my career, it is ruining humanity!
@OrangeFreddyG For those wondering about the aforementioned CBC show, it was cancelled but renewed five years later under the name Michael: Everyday. In an interview before the release, the director claimed he had no phobias. The show was canceled again after the second season.

@mehdirhasan@benshapiro Theater-educated, classically-trained actor here and this was the majority of any โbigโ opportunity I had in the west- auditioned for 24, nearly booked โOmarโ in Traitor (โ08) and the last audition I turned down before leaving was a Pakistani terrorist for a video game franchise
