Welsh Civil Serpent. OH to @vaguely_aware_. Mum to @DrFinlayMcFin, Daisy Biscuit and Tilly the Tripaw. Likes tea, wine, cheese, social history and the Tube.
@StuartHumphryes I also love this photograph. The folded-back sleeves are interesting as though they were much too big for her. Maybe the overgarments were shared?
@StuartHumphryes I’d never guess this image was more than 100 years old - if I’d met him while walking my dogs this morning I’d have said hello in passing and only wondered why he was wearing a singlet in January in Wales!
@LBFlyawayhome I remember my (male) O-level History teacher saying gloomily that in light of this legislation we’d better cover women’s suffrage as it was bound to turn up in the exam. (It took me four attempts before I finally passed nearly ten years later!)
@AnneLouiseAvery Good things to eat, good company, pleasant walks - all thoughtful, making a guest feel welcome without overwhelming them. Miss Rabbit is a wonderful hostess!
@StuartHumphryes One does get the sense of a young girl enjoying herself - it would be interesting to know more about how she came to be there. I think she must be in costume, not a day frock - those sleeves would get terribly crushed under a coat, and as for the washing and ironing …
@StuartHumphryes I remember the shock of it even now. I was six and we had just moved back to Wales, my parents’ home. There was no escaping it - we all saw the footage and read the newspaper stories (I was an early reader). A dreadful, dreadful tragedy.
