Cancel culture is Black women from the Global South targeted and singled out for abuse by a billionaire & right wing media for refusing to perform civility & respectability about the Queen's death while an entire Irish football stadium sings their delight that "Lizzy's in a box"
I heard my friends on Twitter were asking about my cousins around the world! It’s true, I have a lot of bird cousins in different countries. Here’s a little bit about them:
Privilege is being able to make social media content about how you cope with motherhood (i.e, taking “Mummy moments” or drinking wine) and not fearing repercussions from child services as an Indigenous family
A mob of 200 white ppl threaten Mi'kmaq lobster fishers: RCMP does nothing.
A handful of Haudenosaunee defend their land: OPP arrests dozens.
Meanwhile, what is never enforced is Canada's own legislation, the treaties Canadian leaders have knowingly signed. Links below:
okay I've figured it out, all you need to do social media well is infinite energy and to not be bound by the needs and limits of the wet husk of flesh you call a person
"Our show at its core is about the transformational effects of love and acceptance and that is something that we need more of now than we've ever needed before."

Doing social media as a job somehow turns you both into a massive nihilist where everything is transient and meaningless, and also extremely sensitive so that every minor negative feedback cuts to the bone
Juneteenth is a holiday rooted in Black Texas resiliency & humanity. I didn't write about it but I did write about George Floyd & the Texas specificity of his iconography & its meaning. Pls read & share if you like. Thank y'all.

I see a lot of conversations about Juneteenth, but very few that center African-Americans from Texas nor centering the holiday in the specific cruelty of Texas racism. The same thing is happening w/conversations about Black Wall Street in Tulsa.
Specificity matters.
As a Black Woman you really have to Marshawn your projects in the world. Because it is ontological/default for folks to unsee, unhear and steal from Black women. Whew. The more elite your field the more you will get GOT if you’re not careful. #Ibaf 💫
I just ask that when you tell the story that you remember I am still finding my words to fully say my piece.
And I through all of this, put on an amazing show & made history baby. Pls do not let that be lost & defined by what they tried to do to me & my darling show.
Some of you have asked about my experience at the Guggenheim as the first Black curator, woman & creator of the Basquiat exhibition.
I'm still super proud of it. Working at the Guggenheim w/ Nancy Spector & the leadership was the most racist professional experience of my life.
Some of you may feel tired and saturated but we ain’t done yet... so here’s a thread on how not to be a performative ally. This is both for organisations and those working in the sector. 1/16
Here’s a picture I took in February of the heads of Toronto city services (Water, Waste, Parks, etc) This is what it looks like when decisions are made in “the most diverse city in the world.” When we use the terms “systemic” and “institutional” this is what we are referring to..
Me: Sweetie, we're all doing our work now, and it's time for you to do yours, too.
5yo: No you're not. That's just typing and listening to phone calls.
Me: (He's not wrong.)
