"They canceled it because it would appeal to Stargate fans" AND THAT WASN'T ENOUGH.
The Stargate cancelation is a full mask off moment for modern TV, and this is why everyone should care.
It's indicative of why all of our series keep getting screwed up.
The way the Stargate creatives treat the fans well is such a stark contrast to the way the Star Trek creatives give us the middle finger.
What caused this difference you think?
My quote below sums up how stupid Amazon is being about Star Gate. I'm quoted in Fandom Pulse and it sums it up well. Of course if Amazon did it now, they'd screw it up out of spite and gall.
Thought people might like my thoughts on the fiasco so quote-posting for y'all's reading pleasure.
Re: the community note - Bruce Shelley helped create the idea of Age of Empires, but Rick Goodman was the lead designer. I contributed massively to the expansion and sequels. (And of course I'm not the "creator" of Doom but I was a major contributor.)
Where practical Clones really fall apart is when you put them in motion.
They feel way too stiff to the point where it just looks goofy whereas CGI/mocapped Clones were doing this:
Doom and Age of Empires creator Sandy Petersen blasts Amazon over their handling of Stargate:
"1) get handed a massively popular IP that spans 17 years of successful shows."
"2) realize it has millions of loyal fans, desperate for more. They are now in their 40s and 50s, flush with money. Eager to teach their kids & grandkids about Stargate."
"3) you could start with this. You are already three steps up the ladder to huge success. The fans will evangelize it, if you don't wreck the IP. Don't believe it? Look how the fans evangelized Battlestar Galactica after its 30 year hiatus. And the initial Dr Who reboot after 15 years."
"4) cancel the project because you want a "new take" that will eliminate all the loyal fans and turn them into bitter enemies."
"It's like an ancient Greek play about hubris."
Why are corporate execs like this?
@Andywarski Kratos losing his wife was the catalyst for the whole Norse saga. Making her the new main character undermines that because now she's not gone. Imagine a Batman game where you play as Thomas Wayne. Dumb.
