@aral_was_here AHAHAHA and I just realized that December is in the recent PAST, not near future, and I remember all your house hunting shenanigans, so CLEARLY we are both doing well at the reading comprehension AND knowing what year it is thing today.
A moving company may or may not be showing up a week from Monday (who knows! certainly not me!), and I still have to sell a car, relocate a *different* car, wrangle two vet visits, escort work visitors, take files to the London office, catalogue all my booze and cds, etcetcetc...
@aral_was_here Past!Me needed it! And present!me is currently cooking beans in VERY nice handmade Dutch oven that took a mere 2.5 years to make, so I think we all win. May your move go smoothly with an absolute minimum of stress!
By which I mean today I stress-bought an experimental cast-iron Dutch oven at 3am, spent an hour relocating four garbage bagsโ worth of styrofoam peanuts, and pretty solidly headcanoned an epic broship for James Bond and Anthony Bourdain.
Hit a breaking point and decided to splurge on sending out my laundry. The dude just took away my bags, and the level of euphoria I feel is on par with cancelling plans. I donโt have to THINK about it any more! It will justโฆbe done! Calloo callay!
@gnomads In the non-food realm: Making a Production out of clean sheets/jammies/extravagant shower before bed. Good smells (e.g. The Reward-Only Perfume/Candle). Foot soak with smell-nice things. A Reward-Only bottle of booze (port, whiskey). Ludicrously overpriced arty magazines.
I appreciate how everyone at this rest area is either conspicuously wearing pajamas or has stumbled out of a car wearing the equivalent of grabbing the clothes on the floor closest to the bed, regardless of who they belong to.
@gnomads Iโve actually done tea versions of this for several years, just reusing the davidstea advent calendar I got in, like, 2014. I usually get one or two new ones but mostly just fill with old favorites. Theyโre made new and fun by being put in a different container/little drawer!
So. I got a wild hair. I was looking at all the fancy schmancy advent calendars when they first came out, and I love a good tiny surprise, but I was disheartened at how expensive the ones I liked were. All that, with no guarantee Iโd like everything!
I am probably going to have to (โhave toโ) make another chocolate store run, as I got the good kind that wonโt last a full 24 days.
All in all, I thoroughly recommend the DIY grownup advent calendar.
Woke up at 4am; worked a full shift; came home and cooked for three+ hours (after staying up until 10 cooking last night), but by god I got myself a Thanksgiving dinner.
That would be an ancho chile-rubbed turkey breast, spicy dressing, maple-chipotle glazed squash, corn pudding, and spicy cranberry sauce. Accompanied by a glass of Georgian red wine and the remains of a glass of Bigallet. Not pictured: the brown butterscotch pumpkin pie.
