We're nearly 20 years into the 21st century. Can we please stop pretending that amputating a part of a child's genitals in the name of culture, religion, or parental preference is an acceptable thing to do? #intactivist#circumcision https://t.co/gHi6zLVRrz
@MattyBonze @AndrewYang@PardesSeleh I don't think he ever said that a clitoris and foreskin are the same thing. In any case, all unnecessary cutting of children's genitals is fucking wrong and should be banned.
@hooligantactix @cronehive @ToriGlass Frankly it's sad that we rob boys of this very important part of their sexual anatomy...and that it's legal to do so! :( :( :(
@NoahGThomas @CirahEneale @piedpiperz80@AndrewYang 90% sounds high, and even if true, that doesn't negate the fact that there are forms of FGM that are roughly as or even less invasive than male circumcision that are illegal while male circumcision is not.
@Swogalicious@jpodhoretz 1. There are forms of FGM that, like circumcision, "only" remove skin.
2. The foreskin is as useless to men as the clitoral hood is to women.
@Zo_bo_fo_sho@SarkastikB @michaeldemoore @bethanyshondark Soooooo what other normal, living, healthy, otherwise permanent body parts do you believe parents should have cut off of their children? Earlobes? Labia? Where do you draw the line?
@SarkastikB @zenpsyched @Zo_bo_fo_sho @michaeldemoore @bethanyshondark Actually, cleaning the penis was never "difficult." The human mouth, anus, and (uncircumcised) female genitalia would all have posed more of a nuisance in keeping clean and infection-free in ancient times.
@SalvoSensu@Now4NI@Julia_in_DE A more apt comparison would be removing folds of skin from a little girl's genitals. This is more comparable to male circumcision, yes? And you would agree that it is unethical, right?
@marcopolomgt @Angel16827043 @PatriotT111@JackPosobiec@andrewyangvfa So you're cool with parents cutting off parts of children's bodies as long as said parts don't serve a "vital function"? I guess you're cool with cutting off children's earlobes, little girls' labia, etc.?
@sweetie_stop Just out of curiosity, why would you suggest someone circumcise their child? Women aren't circumcised and get way more infections than uncircumcised men and they somehow get by. Europeans, Japanese, etc. don't circumcise, and they don't have high infection rates down there.
@Alphipps64 @dutchwyoming @samstein@willsommer You could probably come up with "health benefits" for removing any non-essential part of the body with enough studies...strange that science is so fixated on researching the "benefits" of removing a part of the genitals and curiously enough only in the less infection-prone male.
@AuerbachScott@samstein@willsommer You could probably come up with "health benefits" for removing any non-essential part of the body with enough studies...strange that science is so fixated on researching the "benefits" of removing a part of the genitals and curiously enough only in the less infection-prone male.
@CindibiseniusOr @samstein@willsommer Soooooo you don't think it's important to discuss as a policy what to do about commonplace barbaric practices performed on children's genitals?
@ElastigirlVotes @Leslie_resists @samstein@willsommer "Personal choice" meaning it should only be made by the "person" who will have to live with the effects of it for the rest of his life...right?
@whaykleinlaura@samstein@willsommer Why is it weird? Shouldn't males be guaranteed the right to decide for themselves how much of their genitals they keep, just like females are in this country? #genderquality
@lifesafeast@samstein@willsommer Maybe because he believes that males should have the same right to decide how much of their genitals they keep that females currently enjoy? #genderequality
