The raping of girls and women and femicide is not a immigrants issue. It is a misogyny and patriarchy issue. It is a men issue. If you genuinely care and want to address it, you address it using feminism. Not anti migration rhetoric
the mere acknowledgment that muslim countries have a violent misogyny problem made people from all walks of life so incredibly angry...you are purportedly academics and activists, why are you angry at this basic fact of the world we live in
@teachbk i mean this sincerely, since we seem to agree on many things, but your feelings about this are your responsibility, not mine.
you are the one who decided to insert yourself in this post. i recommend taking logging off for a bit if your feelings are being too much right now.
i do understand the inclination to defend muslim countries from paternalistic white chauvinism in the name of women's rights but let's not overcorrect and pretend that the treatment of muslim women in their communities isn't absolutely shameful and dire
@teachbk well, i'm not sure what any of that has to do with me or my post, considering i am a muslim woman in a muslim country that knows FULL WELL the difference between religion and culture. that difference is moot when both are used as a cudgel to murder women.
@teachbk i live in a country where there a rampant and rapidly growing femicide problem, and a lot of it is done in the name of religion . why did YOU feel the need to comment on this post in a way that, with all due respect, feels patronizing at best
@Luigi2918 guess what pal i don't live in the west
and all of that stuff you mentioned PLUS everything else happens to women in global south countries too
@fightback1917 "imperialism powered by islamophobia" is a great shield and excuse for both secular and muslim men who dont give a shit about women (and usually actively particpate in their oppression).
clean up your community if you don't want these uncomfortable discussions!
@muddletoes i kind of don't care if i alienate "moderate and liberal" muslims that refuse to clean house and get rid of the misogyny in their communities ๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ
misogyny is present in all of those spaces, which i can attest to as coming from a "moderate and liberal" muslim community myself
@blue_salt1 i understand and i'm sorry if i made you feel attacked, but i just think that if these problems are being done in the name of islam and are rampant in muslim countries then we should probably just call a spade a spade
@blue_salt1 i didnt critique islam itself in any way in the post. i am getting very tired of the knee-jerk reaction to derail these discussions to repeat this "culture not religion" statement that everyone already knows. just bc it is culture not religion doesn't mean it isnt happening
i'm sorry like it is borderline insulting to pretend that widespread honor killings, fgm, forced marriages, child brides, deprivation of employment and education, gender segregation, and YES, forced modesty, are in any way something nobody has the right to criticize. do better!
NEW: The Board of Directors at the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) will formally change its definition of who qualifies as a journalist, to broadly exclude slain Palestinian and Lebanese journalists who worked for government-funded media outlets. Israeli, American, and Ukrainian journalists who work for state-funded outlets or are embedded with the military will remain recognized as journalists, of course.
The move was catalyzed to appease the right-wing Zionist rag The Free Beacon, which has repeatedly accused Palestinian and Lebanese journalists of being undercover militants or used their political opinions or affiliations as justification for their killing by the IOF.
This is a racist scandal of massive proportions for everyone involved, and it makes a mockery of the purported mission of the organization. It is absolutely abhorrent that the organizationโs resources are wasted on this cowardly witch-hunt, at a moment in history that is the deadliest for journalists, especially in Palestine and Lebanon.
