"Despite the study’s adherence to its mandate, its findings were sidelined.”
Your brain keeps making new cells well into adulthood — and a hormone already in your body may have something to do with how well that process works.
A new systematic review looked at 28 clinical studies on growth hormone therapy and brain recovery across dementia, Alzheimer's, traumatic brain injury, and stroke. Most studies found a positive link between growth hormone treatment and memory or recovery outcomes. But here's the honest part: the studies were mostly small, the methods varied widely, and the authors themselves say the evidence is still inconsistent. This is early-stage science, not a green light for any treatment.
What it does tell us is that the brain's repair systems are more active than most people realize, and researchers are working to understand what supports them.
Comment with videos of activities that increase growth hormone, any ideas?
Metabolic disease and psychiatric disorders have historically been treated as separate conditions, yet the evidence for a bidirectional link is strong.
Although the elevated risk of depression in people with diabetes and #obesity is well-documented, it is perhaps less appreciated that people with psychiatric illnesses also experience high rates of cardiometabolic disease.
Crucially, this risk exists independently of psychotropic medication use. The mortality gap between the general population and people with severe mental illness is firmly established; what is less often recognised is that this is caused predominantly by #cardiovascular causes rather than suicide.
Furthermore, many #metabolic hallmarks of neurodegeneration (eg, neuroinflammation, abnormal cerebral glucose metabolism, mitochondrial dysfunction, and impaired insulin signalling) are now also well-reported across various psychiatric disorders, including #depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and anxiety.

Can schizophrenia go into remission?
Yes!
Although it doesn't happen for everyone with the diagnosis, we've long known that it's possible.
WHO: "At least one third of people with schizophrenia experiences complete remission of symptoms."
Did you know that physical symptoms in children can be a sign of emotional distress?
Dr Howard Schubiner has spent more than 20 years helping people understand the connection between the mind and the body. And his message is one I think every parent, teacher and healthcare professional needs to hear.
We have fMRI studies showing that stress and emotions activate the same parts of the brain as physical injury. Pain is real. But its origin isn't always where we think.
In this week's new episode of my 'Feel Better, Live More' podcast, Howard shares a framework that could change the way you think about pain, symptoms and the body's signals forever.
