Social Engineering & Fake Support Teams in the Crypto Space

Social engineering is one of the most dangerous and effective scams in the crypto world. Scammers use psychological manipulation to trick victims into revealing private keys, seed phrases, or login credentials. They often pose as official support representatives from crypto exchanges or wallet providers.

How Does This Scam Work?

Scammers reach out to victims in various ways or target unsuspecting users seeking help:

Fake Support Websites & Google AdsScammers create fake websites that look identical to Binance, MetaMask, Trust Wallet, Ledger, etc.
They run Google Ads so that when users search for “Binance Support,” the first result is a fraudulent page.
Users are asked to enter their login details or seed phrase to "resolve their issue."
Once entered, the attacker gains full access and drains the victim’s funds.

Fake Support on Telegram, Twitter, and DiscordVictims post a question or issue in official crypto groups (Telegram, Discord, Twitter/X).
A scammer instantly sends them a direct message pretending to be Binance Support, MetaMask Helpdesk, or Trust Wallet Support.
They request the victim’s seed phrase, 2FA codes, or remote access (AnyDesk, TeamViewer, etc.) to "fix the problem."
Once they gain access, they transfer all the crypto to their own wallets.

Phishing Emails & SMSScammers send emails or text messages pretending to be from a crypto exchange or wallet provider.
The message often says: “Your account has been locked! Please log in via this link to restore access.”
The link leads to a fake website that looks like the real one.
Once the victim enters their credentials, the scammer immediately uses them to steal funds.

Fake Wallet Updates & MalwareVictims receive a message or see a post saying: “Urgent wallet update required!”
They are redirected to a fake download page that looks official.
Once installed, the fake wallet sends all private keys directly to the scammers.

How to Protect Yourself?

✅ NEVER share your seed phrase or private keys – no legitimate support team will ask for them!

✅ Only use official support channels – visit the exchange or wallet website directly.

✅ Ignore unsolicited support messages – real support teams never reach out first.

✅ Do NOT trust Google Ads for support websites – type the website address manually.

✅ Check emails & SMS carefully – crypto companies do not send random security warnings.

✅ Never grant remote access (TeamViewer, AnyDesk, etc.) – no legitimate support team will ask for it.

These attacks are increasing rapidly because they require no technical hacking, just the victim’s trust.
