My mom called me this week.

"Sweetheart, I'm falling behind on the property tax. It jumped almost $1,300, from $5,900 to $7,200 this year. Didn't they say it couldn't go up like this? Is yours doing the same thing? I don't understand it. Feels like they want us gone."

My mom is 74. Lives on Social Security and a small pension. Been in that house since 1997. Paid off for over fifteen years.

And she owes over $7,000 a year or the county takes it.

This is criminal.
