이재명은 모건스탠리캐피털인터내셔널(MSCI) 선진국 지수 편입이 무산된 것을 두고 증시 안정화에 도움이 되는데 이번엔 안 돼서 아쉽다, 왜 잘 안되고 있느냐며 경제부총리를 채근했다. 자신이 직접 기름을 붓고 불을 질러놓고는, 다 타버린 잿더미 앞에 서서 왜 건물이 무너졌냐고 묻는 방화범의 완벽한 유체이탈 화법이다. 정말 이유를 몰라서 저렇게 묻는 것인지, 아니면 모르는 척 연기를 하는 것인지 진심으로 궁금해지는 대목이다.

감정을 배제하고 작금의 정권이 자본시장에 저질러온 정책적 만행을 건조한 팩트로 복기해 보자. MSCI 편입 좌절은 운이 나빠서 벌어진 사고가 아니다. 얄팍한 정치 공학이 낳은 정직하고도 필연적인 인과율의 청구서다.

첫째, 선진국 지수 탈락의 가장 치명적인 감점 요인은 바로 이 정권이 주도한 공매도 전면 금지 조치였다. 이 무식한 빗장이 걸렸던 정확한 날짜를 들여다보면 그 저열한 의도가 투명하게 드러난다. 정부가 공매도를 전면 금지한 날은 지난 3월 5일, 이른바 6.3 지방선거를 정확히 90일 앞둔 시점이었다. 도대체 왜 하필 그 날짜였을까.

1400만 개미 투자자들의 표심을 단숨에 쓸어 담기 위해, 글로벌 스탠다드와 자본시장의 룰을 모조리 내팽개친 채 선거용 축포로 공매도 시장의 셔터를 용접해 버린 것이다. 글로벌 기관 투자자들에게 공매도란 맹목적인 투기가 아니라, 거대한 자본을 운용하며 리스크를 방어하기 위한 필수적인 보험이자 브레이크다. 외국 자본에게 한국에 투자하라면서 정작 그들이 스스로를 보호할 방패는 압수해 버렸다. 금융의 척추를 부러뜨려 선거와 맞바꾼 대가가 바로 MSCI의 냉혹한 퇴짜다.

둘째, 예측 불가능한 세금 리스크와 관치 금융의 폭주다. 내수 침체 속에서도 현금을 뿌리는 팽창 예산을 짜며 선심성 돈을 쓰려다 보니, 부족한 세수를 메우기 위해 툭하면 금투세 같은 과세 기준을 바꾸며 시장을 롤러코스터에 태웠다. 거기에 더해 글로벌 기업의 팔을 비틀어 정치적 텃밭인 호남에 강제 투자를 종용하고, 노란봉투법으로 기업의 경영권마저 옥죈다. 주주의 이익을 최우선으로 보호해야 할 자본시장의 룰이 초과이익 같은 듣도보도 못한 반시장적 조어들과 함께 정치꾼들의 득표율 계산기 앞에서 매일같이 난도질당하고 있다. 어느 정신 나간 해외 자본이 이런 시장에 선진국이라는 타이틀을 붙여주겠는가.

셋째, 글로벌 스탠다드를 두려워하는 우물 안 개구리식 외환 통제다.

MSCI가 24시간 원화 환전의 자유를 보장하라고 수년째 요구하고 있음에도, 구윤철 경제부총리는 준비 안 된 상태에서 외환시장을 개방하면 역작용이 우려된다며 또다시 궁색한 핑계를 댔다. 입으로는 선진국 편입의 실리를 취하겠다면서, 정작 선진국이 되기 위해 반드시 열어야 할 외환시장의 빗장은 꽉 쥐고 놓지 못하는 낡은 갈라파고스적 행정의 민낯이다.

MSCI의 평가는 단지 영문 공시를 늘렸는지를 묻는 객관식 시험이 아니다. 경제 제도가 정치 권력의 입김에 휘둘리지 않고 철저히 독립적이고 예측 가능하게 굴러가는지를 묻는 냉혹한 실효성 검증이다. 정치가 경제의 멱살을 잡고 흔들며, 기업의 금고와 투자자의 룰을 권력의 쌈짓돈처럼 여기는 개발도상국형 관치 경제를 고집하는 한 선진국 지수 편입은 영원한 신기루다. 여의도의 떼법과 감성팔이는 국내 광장에서나 통할 뿐, 차가운 월스트리트의 자본 논리 앞에서는 조악하기 그지없다.

MSCI에 편입되지 않아 아쉽다고 했는가. 차가운 이성을 가진 시민의 입장에서 진정으로 아쉬운 것은, 세계 10위권의 경제 규모를 가진 대한민국에 글로벌 자본시장의 룰조차 이해하지 못하는 낡은 정권이 들어섰다는 처참한 팩트다. 국가의 경제 시스템을 멍들게 한 당사자가 결과의 책임을 회피하며 유감을 표하는 뻔뻔함이라니.

왜 잘 안 되느냐고 하급자에게 묻기 전에, 거울 속 당신의 정책이 어떻게 선거판의 제물로 쓰였고 얼마나 잔혹하게 시장의 신뢰를 갉아먹었는지부터 뼈저리게 돌아볼 일이다. 자본시장은 정치인의 거짓말과 꼬리 자르기를 결코 용납하지 않는 법이다.

Okay, I've come to the conclusion that these people, and especially the racist Christopher Nolan, really do hate us Greeks, and there's no longer any excuse. In the last month, from the cast playing our Greek ancestors, we've heard:

> Leguizamo: "fighting for Latino representation". The hypocrisy from a racist (while not a single Greek is playing in The Odyssey).

> Lupita: She wants to ask Homer why he wasn't a feminist and woke, and she has opinions about the greatest work of the West even though she's never read it in her life.

> Christopher Nolan: "I want to change the way and the style in which the heroes speak in Homer's poem and adapt it to modern contemporary standards." He thinks this is art, distorting a work while using its name and story to make millions off the back of Greek civilization.

Now tell me. How would you feel if you were Greek and heard a Colombian complaining about the lack of Latino representation in Hollywood at the exact same time he's playing a Greek character?

How would you feel if Lupita insulted your culture and one of the greatest figures in your history?

How would you feel if Christopher Nolan came to your country, asked for 6 million from the taxpayers' money to shoot a film, without telling you anything about the cast, the script, or how he would present your culture, and in the end took the money, trashed your culture, and didn't even honor you during his worldwide promotional tour? How would you feel about this mockery?

Hollywood is a cancer. It has the power to distort history, destroy and humiliate the image of an entire civilization. It has enormous power to push any agenda onto the sheep. And we can't do anything about it. We can only awaken the world against the cultural Marxism that is poisoning people's souls.

They have humiliated our culture and history by promoting a homosexual and African ancient Greece. Well, we didn't have Black people living with Greeks inside our cities in Ancient Greece, nor was homosexuality an institution, there are no primary sources to support any of this pseudo scientific theories. We hate anyone who hates us and distorts our history to promote their disgusting anti-Hellenic agenda in service of their ideology.

Shame on those Western university academics who, for all these decades, remained silent or helped in the distortion and humiliation of Greece. You will find us standing in front of you.

Today I learned that in Nolan’s movie "Odyssey," there is a line: "Sinon was the greatest warrior among the Greeks." Sinon is not mentioned in Homer at all, and in the film he is played by a woman. Now look at what’s happening. We Greeks are forced to listen to barbarians telling us that the movie is amazing, while watching our Greek civilization being mocked on screen, and being told that the greatest warrior of the Greeks is Sinon, played by a woman.

In other words, we Greeks are forced to watch a film based on our own history and our ancestors, and if we disagree with what we see or get angry about it, then we are called racists and puppets of Elon Musk. That’s what they tell us.

So from now on, the purpose of my life will be to turn as many people as possible against all those academics and classicists who supported this abomination, this thing that mocks Greek culture, takes the greatest and most important Greek epic poem, and turns it into a "fairy tale."

No, it is not a fairy tale. It is our Greek history. They are our Greek ancestors. And we have every right to express our opinion, to demand proper representation in the casting, and to demand that Greek academics and historians oversee the script and the historical authenticity of films that exploit Greek civilization to make money in our name.

Enough with the exploitation, the propaganda, and the distortion.
