@JohnHealey_MP@andyburnham you can’t rebuild UK’s finances with such payroll growth. Act now
-Deregulate banks so that they can lend more to SMEs
-Incentivise firms with no or reduced NI to recruit 18-25s
-Allow 25% of pension as deposit for First Time Buyers(boost construction)
The NHS expenditure in England has increased from £120.6 billion in 2016/17 to £203.4 billion planned for 2025/26 (nominal terms), an annual increase of £82.8 billion—equivalent to about £1,592 million per week. (Real-terms growth is lower, around £700 million per week based on 2022/23 data.)
@MayorofLondon@mtpennycook@AngelaRayner Just 5000 units completed in London! Dismal performance. 🤯 Do u really want to build 1.5Mn homes?
-Remove planning hurdles for bigger projects
-Make 20% affordable. Non negotiable.
-Remove late stage viability. It deters BtR investors
No city can survive as a home just for young renters and geriatric landlords. London should take note, writes @mihirssharma (via @opinion) https://t.co/WD9blxW0hA
BREAKING: Olix, the UK chip start up looking to compete with Nvidia, is now valued at $3.3bn!
The company is run by 25 year old @jamesdacombe who has quickly become one of the UK's most exciting entrepreneurs.
The company has tripled its valuation in just 6 months.
It has accelerated the development of its chips since the last raise, and is expecting to start production next year.
This new $312m round has been led by american investment firm @fundomo.
LETS GO - this is amazing news for the UK and real validation that we build hard things.
Congrats to the team at @OLIXComputing.
Great stuff in the FT from @tim linked below
We should be better at saying how great Britain is at building great businesses
Biggest venture capital market in Europe, the world’s 3rd largest
Research institutions + entrepreneurial talent + a global financial centre
Sentiment influences outcomes. Let’s be more positive
UK economic data beating across the board today.... Confidence improving, retail sales solid, PMIs ticking up and inflation expectations surprising to the downside .... Rare to see the UK economy looking so upbeat against a difficult backdrop.

@andyburnham if we continue to import 20% of our energy needs, we’ll not create much wealth. Increase energy generation on a war footing basis.
-Approve more wind, solar & small nuclear projects
-Maximise oil & gas from North Sea
-Monitor monthly progress of top 100 infra projects
On Saturday #wind generated 30.1% of GB electricity, more than imports 21.5%, solar 13.5%, nuclear 13.2%, gas 11.1%, biomass 6.8%, other 2.8%, hydro 1.1%, *excl. non-renewable distributed generation
@Ed_Miliband, Not a great legacy for a strong leader like you. How many yrs do u want to import energy? You import oil & gas from Norway but don’t drill in North Sea. Why?
@andyburnham If u increase our energy generation, GDP will grow faster. Pls focus on energy & housing.
@SteveReedMP@mtpennycook Construction sector has deteriorated horribly during your leadership. Pls remove the hurdles & bring back growth. Focus on moving forward 100+ unit resi, energy generation & infra projects.
Just count the number of homes u delivered against 1.5Mn target
One thing for the new Chancellor to ponder, the UK manufacturing & construction sectors are smaller today than they were at the time of the 2024 General Election #growthineverypostcode#growthineverysector
Where does the UK's hardest tech come from? Increasingly, a university lab.
Since 2010, academic spinouts make up:
💡 58% of photonics startups
⚛️ 56% of quantum
🩺 48% of medical devices
...but just 17% of AI and 8% of space.
The deeper the science, the deeper the academic roots.

Please ban vaping. It will save a lot of children’s lives. Or at least make them unavailable for children under 18. It will be a disaster if you don’t act now
I’m really concerned that one million 11-to-17-year-olds tried vaping last year.
That’s why we’re consulting on plans to stop vapes being marketed to children and young people.

@SteveReedMP@mtpennycook if construction sector continues to contract, our GDP will continue to struggle. Time to act now!
@andyburnham, As u have seen firsthand in Manchester, how construction growth led to the city’s growth. With similar push, it can lead to whole UK’s growth
