Today we remember Benjamin Banneker, who died #OTD in 1806. Banneker was the first African American to publish scientific work & established the boundaries of DC as its land surveyor. He used his self-taught knowledge of astronomy to write almanacs & predict weather & tides.

We recognize that all too often those who do the least amount of work or sensationalized HBCU stories and social media accounts promote a superficial understanding and narrative of our schools and what we produce and who we affect.
