The National Preventive Mechanism (NPM) conducted a monitoring visit to the Malé Police Custody from 11th to 12th May 2026. Two delegates from the Sri Lankan NPM team joined the Maldivian NPM team on this visit.

Director General of the NPM, Ameera Naeem, conducted two sessions at the National Consultation on the Prevention of Torture and the implementation of UNCAT and OPCAT, held in Dhaka, Bangladesh, from 25–26 April 2026.
The first session focused on the responsibilities of the NHRC as a National Preventive Mechanism (NPM), highlighting the Maldives’ journey from government ratification to the establishment of the NPM, as well as key successes achieved over the years.
The National Preventive Mechanism (NPM) has officially published its Annual Report 2025.
The report highlights the key activities carried out by the NPM over the past year, as well as major issues observed in places of detention. It is now available on the HRCM website and will be shared with relevant state stakeholders.
The NPM looks forward to continued engagement with stakeholders to strengthen safeguards, promote accountability, and advance the protection of human rights in the Maldives.
