The Stop Wensum Link campaign group stands firm in its efforts to protect the Wensum Valley and the wider Norfolk countryside from the detrimental impacts of the proposed Norwich Western Link Road.

This development poses significant threats to local wildlife, including the vulnerable barbastelle bats, whose habitats are at risk of irreversible harm.

The issues at Manningtree station highlight a broader challenge we face in preserving our natural landscapes. The extension of the car park there, which impedes public access to the ancient St Edmund Way, generates light pollution, and threatens local wildlife habitats, is a stark reminder of what can happen when development is pursued without due regard for environmental consequences.

The introduction of the Levelling-up and Regeneration Act 2023 represents a pivotal moment for the protection of our landscapes. This legislation mandates that local authorities and public bodies must prioritise the conservation and enhancement of our cherished natural beauty. However, as seen in Manningtree and similar cases, there is a worrying trend of these new duties being overlooked.

We call upon the government and @NorfolkCC to uphold the spirit and letter of this law, ensuring that environmental conservation takes precedence in all planning and development decisions.

The Stop Wensum Link campaign group is resolute in its commitment to enforcing these protections, advocating tirelessly to ensure our landscapes are preserved for future generations. Our natural environments are not just picturesque backdrops but vital ecosystems that deserve our utmost respect and protection.
