@soccerreform Fair. But it’s also reasonable to conclude that staring with a closed system gave American soccer a shot in the arm. I’m not against pro/rel. But it’s not an either/or debate. Support pro soccer now. Support it if/when pro/rel happens. Neither system is perfect.
@m00kie59@soccerreform Sounds like a great way to test all of the conjecture and theories. It’s semi-open. Better to test than blow up the entire thing. Also, MOST mls supporters aren’t even against the idea. It’s the ‘we can’t enjoy soccer without pro/rel’ attitude and the black & white thinking.
@RBPitch@andrew_wiebe@SoundersFC Probably because the encroaching player didn’t make a difference in the play. The goal was scored by the penalty taker and a defender was able to attempt a play on the ball regardless of the encroachment.
A core argument for pro/rel: Overnight, people are going to spend their hard earned money on a match between two teams they’ve never heard of just because one day they might have a chance to play soccer against a slightly better known team next year.
