A little girl in Boston went home one day and asked her Nigerian mother if she could change her name to Zoe.
Nobody at school could say Uzoamaka.
Her mother was cooking. She didn't even turn around.
"If they can learn to say Tchaikovsky, Michelangelo, and Dostoyevsky, they can learn to say Uzoamaka."
That girl kept her name.
Then she went to Hollywood and won three Emmy Awards.
And now the whole world knows exactly how to say Uzoamaka Aduba.
Your name is not a burden. It's a prophecy.
Before Pope Francis died in 2025, one of last wishes was for his popemobile to be converted into a mobile clinic for Palestinian kids in Gaza.
One year after his death, Israel has still blocked the popemobile from reaching the Strip.
Pope Leo XIV held his first meeting with Dame Sarah Mullally, the new Archbishop of Canterbury and the first woman to lead the Church of England and the Anglican Communion. During their audience at the Vatican, the Pope encouraged Catholics and Anglicans to continue the path of dialogue and unity, acknowledging that new challenges have made full communion more difficult. He warned that it would be a “scandal” not only to fail in the common mission of making Christ known, but also to stop working to overcome divisions, “no matter how intractable they may appear.”
[PANEL DISCUSSION]A proposed revamp of South Africa’s history curriculum has sparked debate over which events should be included. Critics fear key colonial topics may be dropped, while supporters back a shift toward African perspectives, pre-colonial history, and resistance movements. Prof.Paul Maluleka, Lerato Lufuno Monguni and Dr Lindie Koorts weigh in.

My daughter texted me from a party:
“Mom, do we still have ice cream at home?”
We don’t. That’s the code.
“Ice cream” means: come get me right now.
“Cookies” means: call me in five minutes with an excuse.
“Nothing” means: I’m okay.
She said ice cream.
I didn’t ask questions. I didn’t text back.
I just grabbed my keys and drove.
When she got in the car she said quietly,
“People started bringing out things I didn’t want to be around.”
We drove home in silence.
Every kid deserves a way out without having to explain themselves first.
Does such an abuse of executive power belong in an open, democratic South Africa which promotes freedom of expression? Will the Minister dictate film projects to be funded by the film commissions as well as NFVF and which theatre productions may be shown at the State Theatre?
