I was very sceptical about initial rumours of rape and sexual assault during the Oct 7 attack, because wartime rape is incredibly rare in our conflict (compared to, say, Ethiopia or Ukraine.) But alas. One more horrific way in which this attack was different to all prior ones.
Yes, amplify Palestinian voices but also dont just sit around & parrot things you dont believe in, if you see something that comes off as racist, antisemitic, etc you should call it out, this helps the movement stay moral and just, suffering doesn't give u an excuse be genocidal.
Guys, you can support Palestine without blindly following whatever some Palestinian flag Twitter user says you should support/believe, use your brain and think for yourself, you can be pro-Palestine and against harming civilians at the same time
29 November will be the international day of solidarity with Palestine, where we are encouraged not to go to work.
We will join in Australia with *"WE R NOT OK. DAY"*
@IBJIYONGI When I first watched DS9 I absolutely thought it was an analogy for Palestine. I read the Hunger Games in 2012 during the Palestinian prisoners hunger strike and kept imagining Katniss Everdeen as Hana Shalabi.
This is the real threat to American Jews, and everyone deflecting attention and fear towards the Palestinian solidarity movement instead of focusing on the danger posed by our actual enemies is actively inhibiting Jewish safety.
They're completely different? "From the river to the sea" is a call for equal, democratic, civic rights for Palestinians alongside anyone and everyone else. These shirts here are explicitly about ethnic cleansing and Jewish supremacy and dominance.
I don’t like political Islam. But people pretending Hamas is like ISIS are insane and either ignorant and Islamophobic or intentionally stirring Islamophobia.
properly used, “indigenous” doesn’t mean “had an ethnogenesis somewhere” it means “was colonised, or is under threat of colonisation”. indigeneity isn’t something that exists in a vacuum independent of colonialism, the french aren’t indigenous to france
jews’ takeaway from these atrocities can’t be a two state solution. it has to be an antizionism which demands one state that upholds the freedom and equality of all who live in it, along with an overhaul of mainstream jewish life to address the moral rot that sustained all this.
@DrRyanAlNatour I think they’re mad that anyone is even paying attention to the Thai and Filipinx hostages. They’re so convinced that only some nationalities deserve empathy.
But I don’t raise it to derail solidarity with Palestinians, I do it because I know that movements against oppression are strongest when they take a principled stand against all oppression and bigotry, no matter who it’s targeted at.
It feels off bringing up antisemitism right now, because in the scheme of things, people being bigots on Twitter really doesn’t compare to bombs dropping on hospitals.
It is 2023 and there are people on this godforsaken website who think the Jews killed Jesus. If you’re going to be an anti-Jewish bigot at least have the decency not to use Palestinian suffering to justify your bigotry.
@alanalentin This used to drive me mad in Aotearoa! I once had a Pākehā guy tell me off for comparing colonisation of Palestine to colonisation of Aotearoa, because “actually the British brought universal human rights values to NZ”.
