Wonderful vindication of knowledge-rich done really, really well. Subject-sensitive disciplinary teaching that is deeply thorough from Y7, scholarly (not driven by GCSE questions) & packed with joy. History teaching in @ArkSoaneAcademy is off the scale. Bravo to staff and pupils.
Congratulations to all receiving GCSE results today. I was in 1st cohort ever in 1988 and remember getting mine @nhehs vividly
Well done to @ArkSchools Soane Acton on first ever marks. 90% got 4-9 Maths &English. Many scored very top marks eg twins who got a total 17 grade 9s
Huge congratulations to our pupils and my colleagues! Also thrilled for those schools celebrating their first set of GCSE results, many of whom echo what we do at Michaela! 🥳🥳🥳
I can not put into words how proud I am of our Year 11 Scientists at @ArkSoaneAcademy
The joy as each student opened their results and realised that all the hard work had paid off - nothing can beat it!
Wow! What a team - so grateful to my incredible colleagues. Bring on Sept!
If you want more students to leave school with good academic outcomes:
Don't change the curriculum
Don't change the way students are assessed
Don't introduce modular exams
Don't re-introduce and widen coursework
Don't force children into making life choices at ever-younger ages
Don't make me do project based learning
Don't lower expectations for students who happen to be from poor backgrounds
Don't introduce screen-based exams
Don't try and make everything easier
Don't "something something AI"
Instead:
Improve the schools. All of them. Some by a bit, some by a lot. There are thousands of schools in this country for whom drastic improvement is within reach and perfectly possible. If those schools improve, more of their students will leave with better outcomes.
If they don't improve, then whatever tinkering or reform you do with the curriculum or assessments doesn't mean anything. You're just covering up the problem, and pretending it doesn't exist.
Improve. The. Schools.
All of them.

Massive congratulations to Ark Soane for a sterling first set of GCSE results. This is the power of teaching explicitly, a culture of inspiring kids to work hard & a curriculum rich in knowledge.
I am so pleased for @ArkSoaneAcademy’s founding cohort and their teachers.

Had the most DELIGHTFUL day returning to @ArkSoaneAcademy for the day. Other than the buzz of seeing old colleagues & pupils I taught, I felt immense joy from the incredible culture & teaching. What did I notice? 1/
