While still working in media, i always interacted with Celebrities. These included Musicians, actors and actresses, DJs, politicians, journalists, prominent lawyers etc etc. Technically anyone who would make a good headline.
They used to reach out to me for advice and favors on how to be featured on TV. And on shows I didn’t have direct access, they would ask me to talk to colleagues to have them featured among others because it helped them boost their credibility and prominence. Which I gladly did and in most cases at 0 shillings because I knew I was building social capital.
Fast forward; After I left media to work on personal projects which included digital content creation projects, I reached out to them and I kid you not, none of them supported me. They always turned down my requests until I gave up except a few people; The late Evelyn Lagu, Mary Flavia Namulindwa and Spice Diana. These ones made it very easy for me but the rest 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂…
Life Lesson:
Not Every Connection is a Relationship. Access is not loyalty. Visibility is not relationship. And favors are not always remembered.
In media, I was valuable because I had leverage. The airtime, exposure, connections and as such, People showed up, smiled, called, and asked not always because of me, but because of what I represented at the time. The moment that leverage shifted, so did their energy. And that’s not bitterness that’s clarity.
Therefore Build people, but don’t expect them to build you back. Build yourself in a way that they have to come back. While I was playing the long game (social capital), many of them were playing the short game (immediate gain). Different mindsets, different outcomes.
A small circle of genuine support is more valuable than a large network of convenience. Build your own platform so strong that support is no longer a favor, it becomes an opportunity others don’t want to miss just like I did.

I am wondering how it can take close to a week for engineers @UmemeLtd , @SpoxOfUmeme@UmemeAtService@MDofUmeme to handle a minor issue reported to them.
@MEMD_Uganda where should a citizen go for justice on electricity related issues?
@UmemeLtd , nowadays what happened to ur services?
A customer requests for replacement of a faulty meter and then pays the required amt.
