🚨Ashley Young on Diogo Dalot:
🗣️“His time at the club is over. I think the fans are already tired of him, and it's becoming obvious.
It's clear that people are losing patience with him. He's been putting in some really poor performances, and there's no excuse for that at a club like Manchester United. It's simply not acceptable.
When you play for Manchester United, you have to understand the expectations. You're representing one of the biggest clubs in the world, and every single performance matters. You cannot keep making the same mistakes and expect people to remain patient.
I know what it means to play for that badge. The pressure is enormous, but that's part of the job. If you cannot handle that pressure consistently, then questions will naturally be asked.
Dalot has had his good moments, but football is about consistency. You cannot survive at this level based on what you did two seasons ago. At some point, you have to prove that you're still good enough.
Manchester United need players who can deliver now, not players who constantly leave supporters wondering what they're going to get next.”
Let’s go there if we have or need to. There’s nothing wrong with going back to the basics, even if it means starting from scratch, just to improve and get better at it again.
🚨 BREAKING: Pierluigi Collina has spoken.
The greatest referee of all time has torn into the Jarred Gillett / VAR decision that waved away Cole Palmer’s clear penalty claim against Sunderland.
Collina’s statement:
“I have watched the Palmer incident repeatedly. It is a clear foul. The defender makes no attempt to play the ball and contacts him from behind. Whether the initial contact starts fractionally outside the box is irrelevant when the foul continues and stops a clear attacking move.
The on-field referee should have awarded a free-kick at minimum. Awarding nothing is unacceptable.
VAR’s job is to eliminate clear and obvious errors. Today it protected one. When there is any doubt about the location of the contact, the referee must be sent to the monitor. Instead we got a flat ‘play on’. That is not elite refereeing.
A player of Palmer’s quality running at goal must receive the benefit of the doubt. Today he didn’t. Minutes later a soft penalty is given at the other end for a 50/50 challenge. Consistency is everything. The same rules must apply to every team.
This damages the credibility of the competition. Technology was introduced to stop exactly this kind of injustice. Today it failed.”
Chelsea fans are already calling this the most powerful statement of the season.
The debate is only just beginning.
