After reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the students created board games. They created the boards, the directions, the question cards, and everything else needed in order to play. They even designed and 3D printed game components.
As we analyzed parts of a play, the students received their own Fractured Fairytales to put on. They chose parts, made some simple props, practiced their stage entrances, and put on the plays- all with very little time.
Today was a matching/sorting day. We matched short paragraphs with their main ideas. We also sorted division word problems while interpreting remainders.
I had the opportunity to share some of the games I play in my classroom that the students really enjoy. Iβm thankful my awesome colleagues jumped right in and played. π
Students deal 5 random cards, and the 6th card becomes the Target Number. Using any operations, they work to reach that number. Itβs amazing to see their math fluency, creativity, and problem-solving skills grow with every round!
First the students sorted story problems. They then solved and searched the classroom and hallway for the matching sums/differences. For each one, they got a puzzle piece and had to put the mystery puzzle together.
I think games and movement make learning fun. Today, students were analyzing longer passages and identifying character traits and evidence. After each question, there was a game for a point. This was the balloon pop. Each ballon had a paper inside with a way to earn points.
We had a talk today about being a community- motivating each other, pushing one another, and holding each other accountable. After school, a scholar decided to take time and write everyone a message. π. #buildingcommunity#fourthgrade#striveforgreatness
