Trend, what trend?
When it comes to nuclear energy, the trend is primarily rhetorical. Yes, both the most recently installed capacity and the amount of nuclear power produced globally have indeed reached new record levels. But ♦️no. 1, China is largely responsible for this, including the construction of new reactors, so not much of a global trend.
♦️But no. 2, the real trend is happening in renewables.
Global investment in renewables was more than 20 times higher than in nuclear energy. Newly built solar and wind energy capacity is 100 times greater than newly built nuclear power capacity, 565 GW versus 5.4 GW. The power generated by renewables is also 70% higher than that generated by nuclear sources.
More questions about where the trends lie?
Oh yes, battery storage, its cost fell by a further 40% last year. This means it has passed a trigger point.
In combination with renewables, battery storage is an increasingly cost-effective and stable source of energy. This allows developing countries, for example, to switch quickly to an independent, reliable, and predictable energy supply without having to make cumbersome and lengthy investments in nuclear technology.
These exciting conclusions and much more can be drawn from the new World Nuclear Industry Status Report 2025. A comprehensive work with global and country-specific overviews, accessible data, and tables—take a look! https://t.co/NoAcHhtDXZ
