@the_smallie This is what supporting Chelsea does to you 😂
Five Champions League games on and I’m still more invested in Chelsea vs Leeds at the Bridge.
@CFCMods Whatever happens with the contract, the important thing now is minutes. Chelsea clearly rate Estêvão highly. The next step is giving him enough responsibility to show why.
@justcfc That’s why tonight feels like the ideal moment to give Estêvão real minutes. No need to fast-track him into a guaranteed starter, but 96 minutes across four games is barely a look-in. Give him a proper run and let him earn more responsibility on the pitch.
@CFC_KCEE7 I agree with the bigger point. The Arsenal loss wasn’t ideal, but it exposed exactly where Chelsea still need to improve. If Xabi learns from it quickly and gets more control into the midfield, this team should get better as the season goes on.
@ZeenyBlue I really want to see Barco get proper minutes tonight. Cup games like this are exactly where you find out whether a young player is ready for more responsibility.
@EbereCFC For me it’s also about the response after Arsenal. Chelsea need to show they can handle a game they’re expected to win. No drama, no letting Leeds grow into it. Just get the job done.
What I want from Chelsea tonight is control. We’ve proved we can create chances, but too often our games turn into chaos.
Against Leeds, I want us to own the ball, shut down transitions, and make it feel routine. That’s what real progress under Xabi looks like.
@tiier_1st That’s the bit I worry about too. I love the idea of Reece in midfield, but with his injury record you can’t have Chelsea leaning on him there week after week. Use him selectively, rotate smartly, and manage his minutes properly.
@finest_che2325 I want to see Estêvão start more, but I’m fine with Alonso making him earn it. The talent is obvious. If he adds consistency and sharpens the little things off the ball, he’ll be very difficult to leave out.
Reading that Chelsea explored Sander Berge late in the window only makes the midfield situation more frustrating.
If we knew another midfielder was needed, that deal had to be sorted before Enzo left. The planning has to be better.
@finest_che2325 I like James–Caicedo as an option, especially in games where Chelsea need more control. I just wouldn’t make Reece a permanent midfielder. His versatility is too valuable, and managing his fitness still has to come first.
@Itz_Ekko@justcfc Exactly. That’s what I mean by control. It’s not just the midfielders or defenders individually, the whole team has to defend better from the front. Until that improves, the back line will keep getting exposed.
After that cameo against Arsenal, I’d start Estêvão against Leeds.
He came on with no fear and nearly changed the game. Chelsea need to find him proper minutes now, not just late cameos.
Talent like that has to develop on the pitch.
I’m not worried about losing to Arsenal. What worries me is how easy Chelsea still are to get at.
7 goals conceded in 3 league games is too many.
The attacking football is exciting, but Xabi has to find some defensive control quickly.
@bluesxtra_X Yesterday actually made me more confident about the defence. The bigger issue for me is controlling games so they aren’t defending under pressure for long spells. If the midfield gives them more protection, I think this back line can improve quickly.
@FrankKhalidUK I agree it takes time, but 7 conceded in 3 games is still a warning sign. I don’t think the issue is just the defenders either. Chelsea need better control in midfield so the back line isn’t constantly exposed.
