The subsidies are there to make it function in a market you and your colleagues refused to regulate. The ACA wasn’t built as a pure public system..it was a compromise with the insurance industry because Congress, under pressure from..you guessed it..people like you, stripped out the public option and any serious price controls. The subsidies patch over the gap you created. Without those subsidies, you’ll have the same shit we had before 2010..uninsured rates exploding, emergency rooms doubling as primary care, and medical debt being the leading cause of bankruptcy.
