Exactly 9 years ago, pro-#Russian militants led by Igor Strelkov-#Girkin shot down a Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777-200ER in the sky near #Donetsk. It is one of the largest disasters in the post-Soviet space, there were 283 passengers and 15 crew members on board, all of them died. Among the victims were 80 children.

The International Court of Justice in The Hague found that the Boeing was shot down by militants of the so-called "#Donetsk People’s Republic" with a missile from the Russian Buk air defense system, as they mistakenly confused it with a military aircraft. Russia at that time fully controlled the actions of its proxies in the Donbass and is responsible for their actions.

The Hague court sentenced Igor Girkin, Leonid Kharchenko and Sergei Dubinsky in absentia to life terms.
