The Rapture and the Day Heaven Invades Earth
Revelation 19:11-14 says, “And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True… And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.” There is one of the most majestic scenes in the whole Bible. Heaven opens, not for a prophet to peek in, not for a martyr to receive comfort, not for John to receive another vision of the throne, but for the King to come out. This is not meek and lowly riding into Jerusalem on a colt while religious hypocrites plot His death. This is the Lord Jesus Christ riding out of Heaven as the conquering King. His eyes are as a flame of fire, His head has many crowns, His vesture is dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. That is not the soft little christ of modern religion. That is the King of kings and Lord of lords coming to take what belongs to Him.
Now notice the armies. Revelation 19:14 says, “And the armies which were in heaven followed him.” That one phrase is enough to wreck a lot of confused prophecy teaching. If the saints are coming with Christ from Heaven, then they had to be in Heaven before they came with Him. You cannot come back down with the King unless you first went up to be with the King. The Second Advent in Revelation 19 is not the rapture. The rapture is the Church caught up to meet the Lord in the air. Revelation 19 is Heaven invading earth with Christ at the head of the armies. One is Christ coming for His saints. The other is Christ coming with His saints. One is comfort. The other is conquest. One is upward. The other is downward. A man who cannot tell the difference between those two movements is going to make a royal mess of his Bible.
The day Heaven invades earth proves the Church’s prior departure. The Bride has been caught up, examined at the judgment seat of Christ, and associated with the heavenly company before the King descends in open war. The world will have had its beast, its false prophet, its mark, its image, its lies, its armies, its blasphemy, and its final rebellion. Then Heaven opens. The King appears. The saints follow. The beast is judged. The false prophet is taken. The armies of earth are crushed. The kingdom approaches. The same world that rejected Christ at His first coming will be overthrown at His second. And the Church that was caught up before wrath will return with Him in glory.
Chapter One: Heaven Opens Because Earth Has Rejected Its King
Revelation 19:11 begins, “And I saw heaven opened.” That is not a small statement. Heaven does not open casually. When Heaven opens in Scripture, something divine is being revealed, announced, or accomplished. At the baptism of Christ, the heavens were opened. Stephen saw the heavens opened as he was being stoned by religious rebels. John saw a door opened in Heaven in Revelation 4. But here Heaven opens for war. The King is not coming to negotiate with the beast. He is not coming to ask the nations whether they are ready for His policies. He is coming to judge and make war.
Earth has rejected its King from Genesis to Revelation. Men rejected God’s word in Eden, rejected Noah’s preaching before the flood, rejected the prophets, rejected the Lord Jesus Christ when He came unto His own, rejected the apostolic witness, rejected the gospel of grace, and in the Tribulation will embrace the beast while blaspheming the God of Heaven. That is the record of man when left to himself. The human race does not need more self-esteem. It needs a Saviour. Without Christ, man does not rise into glory; he organizes rebellion until God opens Heaven in judgment.
The rapture comes before this invasion because the Church is not part of the world’s rebellion. The Church is the Body of Christ, saved by grace, sealed by the Spirit, and waiting for the Saviour from Heaven. The Body does not wait on earth for Christ to invade it with wrath. The Body is caught
John 8:58-59
Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.” So they picked up stones to throw at him, but Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple.
