@DukePoliSci reunion with Professor @MHarrisPerry, Professor Ismail White and current REP PhDs @WeArePRIEC. She was the first black woman to attain her PhD in our department. Inspired by scholars who value mentoring the next gen, and who have paved the way for us. #WFUPriec
Brother Amin Abdullah was the security guard who was martyred at the Islamic Center of San Diego. He gave his life to protect the lives of countless students and congregants.
One of his last Facebook posts said:
"What is success? To many people success is financial stability, good reputation, beauty, etc.
As for ME! Wallahi, thumma Wallahi. It is returning back to Allah OUR creator with the same pure soul he loaned me at birth.
Having the Mala'ikah [angels] of Allahu ta'ala saying
"don't fear and don't grieve, but receive the glad tidings of Jannah which you were promised by the Most forgiving and Most Merciful".
May Allahu ta'ala grant us Husnal Khatimah, AAAAMEEEEN🤲"
May the Most Merciful meet you with those beautiful glad tidings, oh Amin. You're safe now
My family is part of the targeted San Diego mosque…my babies were supposed to start preschool there. Anti-Muslim racism continues to kill and shatter the fragments of safety we’re trying to hang on to…
This week we celebrate our PLS Doctoral Students who went the extra mile this year and earned one of our department awards. Today we feature Tosin Salau who won this year's Best Paper Award. Congratulations Tosin!

As I left my early voting site, an elderly woman offered to walk me to my car. "I'm worried about you and your safety." It was a sweet gesture reflecting the generosity of my town but reminded me how much visible minorities think about safety when showing up to vote.
Estimates show the median age of a Michigan voter will be 58 in November (oldest electorate since 2014).
Obviously baby boomers are getting older, but another factor is the much lower 18-29 turnout rate observed so far this year.
2020 turnout = 62%
2024 expectation = 44%
he wrote poetry, and i wanted to share an excerpt of one from an article in the kansas city star. may he rest in power. may his poetry be a balm for the heart.
Election security is a major concern in 2024. On Sept 19, IPPSR held a forum to discuss this vital topic. Our guests were Deputy Secretary of State Aghogho Edevbie, Former Director of Election Chris Thomas, and Grand Rapids City Clerk Joel Hondorp https://t.co/kPoV1MIAIy
Some really important takeaways in this NBC poll where Harris leads by 5 points:
1. Border and immigration have fallen 8 points as important issue down to 14%
2. Trump advantage on Border has fallen 14 points to +21, it used to be +35
3. Trump advantage on economy has fallen 13 points to +9, it used to be +22
4. Harris largest advantage on any issue is protecting immigrant rights, +28 even higher than her lead on abortion +21

Someone else will do a longer explainer, but real quick - how do you know your poll is garbage in a very partisan, very stable, 50-50 type environment? You admit that your poll moved 10 points in one month! LOL. Um, that is NOT POSSIBLE @nytimes but okay, it makes for good headlines
Prof. @nuraphd telling us about Ummah Consciousness and its effect on political engagement in high-cost scenario. Her book, Beliefs that Bind, is in the works! 🧿🧿
@asdurso presenting incredible work on MENA communities in the US, discussing 8 new legal cases she found that contextualize MENA racial categorization, cannot wait for your book! #spire2024

"Two of my brothers died in one day by the Taliban, the third died in a bomb blast the following year." His father passed shortly thereafter from the stress of the news. Casual conversation with my Afghan uber driver, a profound reminder about how vast the scars of war are.
Super thrilled to share my thoughts on @goodauth the new OMB changes regarding Hispanic/Latino and MENA identity!
TLDR: although I’m thrilled with MENA label, new changes continue to erase Afro-Latino and Afro-MENA identity, and why it matters.
