@IndigoDaya I hear your pain
Tears are an understandable response to achingly slow change
But change is happening because of you and others who won’t accept the way things are… people feel hope because of your determination and fierce compassion
Take care, be kind to yourself, take timeout
Sen. Bernie Sanders addresses supporters after suspending his 2020 campaign: “I want to express to each of you my deep gratitude for helping to create an unprecedented grassroots political campaign that has had a profound impact in changing our nation.” https://t.co/1QQmBwk1MJ
@firemonkey1957 I respect your right to believe what you want, but I believe differently—and that’s my right.
I know child abuse caused my distress & it was not an illness. Suggesting I have a genetic tendency towards psychosis lets abusers off the hook for the consequences of their actions.
@firemonkey1957 I can only speak for me.
I use the word survivor because:
—I survived child sexual abuse
—I survived the distress & madness caused by abuse
—I survived psychiatric coercion, rights violations & harmful treatments.
Calling myself a survivor is an intentional political act.
I can’t think of any more pressing issues in mental health than respecting survivor voices, upholding rights, addressing root causes like trauma, calling out biased evidence & serious harms from treatments... and an urgent need for critical & diversified thinking in psychiatry.
I find the difference between the socially responsible use of masks in Asia, out of care not to infect others, and the endless arguments in the US about the usefulness of masks in protecting the wearer, is... shall we say - anthropologically interesting.
