I’m excited to report that today I started a new position as the Research & Analysis Unit Supervisor in the Office of Nutrition Services at the WA State Department of Health!
Outrageous: Lunchables, reformulated, will now be part of the National School lunch program. Given what we know about ultra-processed food, this is sickening, both literally and figuratively. https://t.co/diD7j0zc1C https://t.co/HFdAXyhJdb
📢Today, @USDANutrition announced proposed changes to allow online shopping in #WIC! This is a critical change for modernization of the WIC program. (THREAD🧵
Thank you @deray from @PodSaveThePpl for sharing the heartbreaking new study revealing that the wealthiest Black women had worse infant birth outcomes and higher maternal mortality rates than the poorest white women in their CA data. We need to do better! https://t.co/61FBJ8CnB1
@amateurgourmet I worked at a Subway during high school and let me tell you, no amount of washing got the smell fully out of the uniforms, it practically infiltrated your pores…I cannot eat there to this day.
@sardickie The larger issue with UP foods is they are energy dense & highly palatable making it easy to overeat. We need a combo of gov legislation and initiative from food companies to engineer nutrientdense UP foods that are affordable & just as convenient & palatable as current offerings
@FromPhDtoLife I make a mean banana bread that’s virtually fat free (only fat is from the eggs) and it only has a 1/4 cup added sweetener. I know it’s not *technically* a cake, but I think it’s in the same family of recipes. I’ll post the recipe to my blog soon! https://t.co/cyEiZeae8C
Animal source foods, especially ruminant livestock, typically perform poorly on environmental impact assessments.
Is this because they are inherently unsustainable?
Are crops inherently more sustainable?
Or are the metrics used to quantify the impact of livestock flawed?
No matter what dietary pattern one follows, I think we can all agree that our food environment in the US needs drastic improvements. We spend more time debating "what diet is best" as a society & not enough time advocating for practical changes to move the needle. 🤷🏾♀️
Treating obesity is not diet culture, because finally obesity is recognized as a disease and there are research based, effective treatments available. The purpose of treating obesity is health, not thinness. #OACAction
@DrKristieLeong Thanks for bringing this to our attention. What I want to know though, is why more people aren’t raising the alarm about similar, arguably worse, findings about dark chocolate? https://t.co/Lw3CXCVvs5
@TyRBeal 💯 how can we encourage food companies to use their powers for good? (Aka create convenient, affordable, satisfying & palatable food that’s actually nutritious)
