The Chairperson of the African Union Commission welcomes the signing of the "Document of Principles: Roadmap* *for Ending the Transitional Period” in #Libya.
H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, warmly welcomes the landmark signing of the "Document of Principles: Roadmap for Ending the Transitional Period " concluded on June 16, 2026, by the leadership of Libya’s three primary political bodies: the House of Representatives, the Presidential Council, and the High Council of State.
The AUC Chairperson @ymahmoudali highly commends the statesmanship, mutual compromise, and constructive commitment demonstrated by their Excellencies Honourable Aguila Saleh, Dr. Mohamed Al-Menfi, and Dr. Mohamed Takala. Their joint decision to bridge institutional divisions underscores a shared determination to prioritize the national security, financial stability, and territorial integrity of the Libyan state above all other consideration.
He views this tripartite roadmap as a major breakthrough toward resolving the prolonged political transition in Libya. The Chairperson notes with great satisfaction that the agreement successfully capitalizes on the positive momentum established earlier this year through the adoption of an agreement to unify the national budget and the formal endorsement of the National Reconciliation Charter facilitated by the African Union.
In this regard, the Chairperson of the Commission renews the constant and unwavering support of the African Union to the authorities, while urging stakeholders to engage fully and in good faith in the implementation of this roadmap aimed at bringing an end to the current political situation in Libya, with a view to fulfilling the legitimate aspirations of the Libyan people for a stable, prosperous, and democratic State.

Somalia proudly signed and endorsed the #Mombasa Ministerial Call to Action, reaffirming our commitment to advancing ocean science, knowledge sharing and sustainable ocean governance across Africa and beyond. The Call to Action recognises ocean science and knowledge as essential public goods and critical development infrastructure for #Africa’s sustainable blue economy, climate resilience, food security, livelihoods and sovereign management of marine resources.
By endorsing this important declaration, #Somalia joins fellow African nations and other nations in championing evidence-based decision-making, strengthening regional cooperation and promoting investment in marine research, innovation and capacity building.
The initiative underscores the importance of harnessing ocean knowledge to address climate change, enhance economic opportunities, protect marine ecosystems and improve the well-being of coastal communities. Africa’s ocean future must be shaped by African priorities, African institutions and African leadership.

The Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, received the newly appointed UNHCR High Commissioner, H.E. Mr. @BarhamSalih, during his official visit to Ethiopia & the AU.
The Chairperson @ymahmoudali congratulated Mr. Salih on his appointment & reaffirmed AU's support for strengthening refugee protection & advancing durable solutions across the continent.
They also discussed humanitarian situation in Africa, particularly forced displacement, refugee inclusion, & the need to expand durable solutions including, local integration, & self-reliance, while addressing the root causes of displacement.
The High Commissioner commended the strong AU–UNHCR partnership & pledged to further deepen cooperation.
The Chairperson, in turn, acknowledged the progressive refugee policies adopted by many AU Member States & highlighted ongoing efforts to promote protection, inclusion, & durable solutions for refugees displaced populations.

The Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, received & held consultations this morning with members of the International Contact Group for the Great Lakes (ICG) at the AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa.
The exchanges focused on developments in the Great Lakes region, particularly the situation in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, & their implications for regional peace, security, & development.
The Chairperson and ICG members underscored the importance of sustaining ongoing efforts to promote dialogue, de-escalation, & confidence-building.
They welcomed progress achieved through the Washington Accord & the Doha process, & stressed the importance of consolidating gains through the implementation of agreed measures, including a durable ceasefire, enhanced humanitarian access, confidence-building initiatives, & continued engagement among the concerned parties.
The Chairperson @ymahmoudali reiterated the African Union’s lead role in supporting regional & international efforts aimed at achieving a peaceful & lasting resolution to the crisis, and called for continued alignment and coordination with AU-led initiatives. In this regard, ICG members reaffirmed their support for the AU's efforts & its central role in advancing peace, security, & stability in the Great Lakes region.
The meeting also reaffirmed their conviction that a sustainable solution can only be achieved through dialogue and peaceful means, & called on all stakeholders to uphold their commitments, protect civilians, facilitate unhindered humanitarian access, & respect international humanitarian law.
The Chairperson further noted that the Ebola outbreak is placing additional strain on an already fragile humanitarian situation & underscored the need for strengthened regional cooperation, cross-border coordination, & public health preparedness, in line with the outcomes of the recent AU High-Level Meeting on Ebola in Bujumbura.
The Chairperson & the ICG members reaffirmed the importance of inclusive dialogue, good governance, and regional cooperation as indispensable pillars for sustainable peace, stability, and development in the Great Lakes region.

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, @ymahmoudali strongly condemns the terrorist attack carried out on 18 June 2026 against the International Airport of Niamey in the Republic of Niger.
The Chairperson extends his sincere condolences to the families of the victims, as well as to the authorities and people of Niger, and wishes a speedy recovery to those injured.
He commends the swift response of the Nigerien Defense and Security Forces, whose actions helped repel the attack and secure the airport facilities.

At today’s Ministerial Follow-up Committee on the Implementation of #Agenda2063 , the Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, @ymahmoudali underscored that Africa’s Agenda 2063 “Decade of Acceleration” will be judged not by the quality of its plans, but by the delivery of tangible transformation.
Speaking on the first Biennial Progress Report of the Second Ten-Year Implementation Plan (2024–2033), he noted that Africa’s continental performance currently stands at 53%.
Saying that while progress is visible, he cautioned that it is not yet occurring at the speed & scale required to meet the ambitions of #Agenda2063.
He highlighted encouraging gains in governance reforms & citizen empowerment, while warning that progress remains uneven across several flagship “moonshots”.
The Chairperson outlined three urgent priorities to accelerate implementation:
✅Regional integration must be fast-tracked, building on progress under the AfCFTA, air transport liberalisation, energy market integration, & digital transformation, while addressing persistent gaps in infrastructure, connectivity, & protocol implementation.
✅Peace and security remain indispensable prerequisites for development, investment, & trade across the continent.
✅Financing for development must be urgently reformed through stronger domestic resource mobilisation, fair & effective taxation, enhanced public financial management, decisive action against illicit financial flows, & the deployment of innovative financing instruments.
He further called for stronger alignment between planning, budgeting, & execution; deeper integration of Agenda 2063 into national development frameworks; & the reinforcement of accountability systems to ensure delivery.
The Chairperson also expressed his sincere gratitude to the President of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, H.E. @AOuattara_PRCI, in his capacity as the AU Champion for Agenda 2063, for his continued leadership & commitment to advancing Africa’s long-term transformation agenda.
I'm concluding, Mr. Youssouf stated: “Let this be the decade where Africa moves decisively from aspiration to realisation.”
